Any thoughts about this?
All I know is what I read on Wikipedia. Some black kids beat up a white kid in a segregated town. Black kids either did or didn't get a fair trial, depending on whether you ask white people or the NAACP. Now black people are protesting en masse, and due to the protest two schools are gonna be shut down because they expect a riot. I generally hate the NAACP and Jesse Jackson. I hate mass protests by groups of dipshits who blindly protest (not calling black people dipshits, but every black person I've talked to is protesting due to the mere fact that the "victims" are black). But I also hate racist rednecks and unfair trials. --------------------   |

Considering Jena is a hell-hole stuck in the 1960's, I feel sympathy for these kids.
Segregation is still rampant in Jena and just recently they removed the "white tree" from the local high school. It was a place where the white kids would sit on hot days. These kids are being charged with attempted murder and trumped up charges. It's stupid. it sounded to me from all i've heard about this, that the only real problem is that some hot shot DA overstepped his bounds by attempting to try the kids as adults. but the justice system seems to be working as intended, as that trial was declared unconstitutional and they reset them to be tried as juveniles. all this NAACP bullshit and rallies and whatnot are stupid, justice is being served as it's supposed to be.
as far as what happened, yeah the white kid was asking for trouble big time when he did what he did, but it doesn't give the other kids a free pass to beat him within an inch of his life either. if the tables were turned and it was 6 white kids beating up a black kid, it'd be chaos and national guard troops down there by now. |

I'm not saying the black kids did the right thing, I just think there is still a heavy sentiment of anti-black feelings that swirl through that town.
If you go through some of the history of Jena you will see that there have been incidents prior to this one that started with whites acting poorly towards white kids. Then again, like you said Will, it runs both ways. Being symbolically racist doesn't give anybody the justification to almost kill you. Should they be tried as adults and these violent zealouts put away for 50 years? Yes. No one should have to fear for their life to voice or show their opinion.
