I'd probably do Napa Valley if the above choices were all I had.

The Keys and Miami both suck, while the beaches off the coast of Tampa are pristine.

Vegas gets old real quick (for me at least).

The Portland/Northern California area is extremely nice as well. I'm headed to Portland later in July to take in the cooler temperatures, awesome food and breweries, and great scenery.

You could also do Belize or Costa Rica for that amount.
Mommy
I completely disagree on The Keys. I loved it when I went there.

Also, you could do New York City or something.
chook
You should do Costa Rica. Does Puerto Rico fall in that price range?
cmac
agree with hartmann. keys suck hardcore. vegas gets old quickly. napa valley is where it's at.
HMWH
Puerto Rico is just out of the price range

there are a lot of good information
now we are trying to work out logistics for a quick trip
Hartmann
Also, going west gives you more time on the Thursday evening to get a little more out of the trip since you can leave a little later.

If you end up going to Napa, I would suggest flying into San Jose or Sacramento and not Oakland or San Francisco.
chook
I really hate Napa Valley, but then I hate wine.
psidancer
Whatever happened to just going to Tijuana to see a donkey show?
Mommy
Napa Valley seems hoity toity.

I don't know what people don't like about The Keys...

Maybe they have been there in recent years. Didn't a hurricane kinda wipe Key West out?

I went there like 8 years ago....heck maybe longer ago.
jonathan83
go to Vernal, Utah

During the summer I'm guessing the Keys aren't too bad, but during the winter it's old people/tourist central. When I go to a beach or an attraction, I don't want to be bumping into everyone, I can do that in Galveston.

Plus, there really isn't much to do or see besides driving it.

One place I forgot to mention, Panama. Decent amount to see, good beaches on the Pacific side, and good, affordable hotels.
Mommy
I liked the shopping, restaurants, and boat tours in the Keys.

guess i should specify why the trip is happening
the GF is a lawyer in Oklahoma. . . wanting to move back to Texas

she is taking the Texas Bar the days before we go, so the trip is mainly so she can relax and get her mind off the test after she is done
she finishes at 5pm in Arlington, so we would leave after that, or catch a red eye the next morning. . . then on monday morning at like 8 i have to head out to a work conference
so trying to cram in as much as we can in those 3.5 days

you can cram alot with 12 prostitutes...
Mommy
I think the Keys is a great way to relax and just have fun.

You can go to the beach, go on boat rides, enjoy fine dining, and shop.
cmac

I went there when I was 15 or 16 and had a blast.

Not sure if you meant Thursday-Sun as in this weekend or later. Next shuttle launch is on July 11th. I'd love to go see one. Only a handful more left.
Mommy
Oh man, Cape Canaveral is a lot of fun...I missed a shuttle launch there by a couple of days. I did get a tour of the NASA station there, though. God it was fun.

IMO, I think Disney World is the perfect place to take a girl to have some fun. It really brings out the kid side in people. That's just me though.

we just recently went to mustang island just north of padre and the beaches were absolutely fucking gorgeous

If the weather and water is right, mustang island is almost as good as Hilton Head.
Mommy
OOO Hilton Head is AWESOME! We drove up there once because it's only an hour from where we live.

Portland and Santiago, Chile (unless work interferes) will be my two summer vacations.

Easily the best beach close to Houston.
Mommy
I leave for Disney World in 9 days. I will be there 8 days. Staying on property of course. I AM SO EXCITED!
