cmac
i offered 300 a year ago. no dice...
Spectatrix
Why the change of heart?
cmac
nah, i got a bunch of road trips and flights coming up i have to pay for. maybe in about august though.
Hartmann
I'll buy it for $150.
Psykopath
Depending on how my fight goes in a couple weeks, I may have the spare scratch to buy it.

$200
Dogmeat
you should just give it to somone who cares smile.gif
cmac
if you're gonna put in a bid, at least mention your plans for it... smile.gif
THECHICKEN
lance owes someone money
jonathan83
why don't all 3 of you buy it together?

think about it. cmac can do all the html and whatever stuff needs to be done on that end
hartmann can do all the advanced stuff or come up with new ideas to add to the website
zach (since he's the most active probably) can run the forums and be admin to that side.

everyone wins and its only $100 a piece.
THECHICKEN
isn't that how rar came tumbling down?

Pretty much.

Lance, e-mail me.

Oh, and plans, if I took over the site? Ban cmac.

Just kidding. I would probably re-arrange the different forums, try to get the word out on the campus (I still have to go back to Lubbock every now and then), and maybe have some other features that have been talked about in the past.
impala454
What on earth would possess someone to pay Lance $300 for this? He's probably just tired of paying the $5 domain renewal and figures one of you suckers will actually think you can do something useful/profitable with it.

I'm not interested in buying the site, but I do offer my services as an additional forum admin if the forums grow enough to warrant it.

true, but maybe they can learn from their mistake. i think all of them were kinda friends that hung out, and then had disagreements and what not. i dont think that would be the case with these other guys.

hartmann used to be in all of it, so i'm sure he has a lot of info and ideas on that. even if he buys it totally, he could use cmac and zach for day-to-day updates, modding, etc. since he seems to be kinda busy.
chook
I forgot, who were the RAR owners?
Hartmann

Me
Lance
Charles
Austin
Ryan (Slim)

I would be all for letting cmac do some design for the site, Zach doing the day to day running of the boards, and Spectatrix helping.

The biggest thing that would change is probably some more rules so that the content is actually something that college kids would want to take part in.
Mommy
What is wrong with bringing rate a raider back?

Like the rating system?
cmac
isn't the whole hot or not thing kinda played out on the internet though?
woody
i've got $2 in my paypal and refi'ing the house. otherwise i'd put up some $

Well, I haven't logged in since forever and I haven't even checked on the site in weeks. I'm not motivated enough to work on the site to improve it, plus I have way to many other side projects which are higher priorities.

Given all of this I might as well transfer it to someone who is motivated to improve the site and will actually do something with it to improve features and traffic.

I like the idea of multiple people taking control and ownership.

Once everyone pays I'll transfer the domain to whoever and then you guys can get your own hosting account etc. I'll also give you the login to the account on Invisions website which holds the license for the IPB forum software so you can always get the latest version. Everyone paid 250 way back in the day through donations to get a license. Who knows though, the new owners might convert it to phpBB or something.

If I buy it, I'd like a database backup as well.

Hah, yeah. I'm currently paying for a wedding and preparing to buy a house. Little bit money-intensive, that. smile.gif
cmac
how much is your hosting a month? and how much bandwith are we using here?
oh, and about how many visitors does this site actually get?

Yeah big time

Though ratemyrack.com is still fun every now and then... whistling.gif

I think the prof-rating service would be a bigger draw.

I think the best bet for long-term success would be to turn Techsans into an general Texas Tech portal. Academic & sports calendars, sports results, general news, student org stuff, rate-a-prof, forums, etc.
cmac
yes. pull from various rss feeds.

Yep. That's about what I was figuring. Good to have some original content too, though.
Hartmann
QUOTE (Watchman @ Apr 22 2009, 05:54 PM) *
Hartmann has agreed to buy it in the full amount.

Once I transfer it over I expect a Lance the Nazi-Admin memorial page with a photoshop of my face over one of those huge ass communist Kim Jong-Ill posters.

Only if that's what you want posted.
cmac
so hartmann what are your plans?
Hartmann

I'd like to take some of the suggestions that have been posted on here and going through with them.

The rate-a-prof idea is a good one and is something that I will explore. Other ideas?
cmac
i like the all things tech portal thing. maybe a poor man's eraider with more portals, if that's still around.
a restructuring of the forums.
maybe a blog or something. forums are starting to dwindle down across the internet it seems as well.
Spectatrix
Part of the main page could be set up as a blog format, where the admins post stories and a link back to the forums for discussion/debate.
jonathan83
the only other tech message board i know of is raiderpower.
maybe something that can lure their users over? but not compete..that wouldn't happen obviously.

if you redo the forums and stuff, they should all be sfw and normal, and then just have one where all the forsaken/dogmeat/posts would go. as far as modding, less mods. you only need 3-5 and just have them all global instead of one for each thing.
jonathan83
oh and btw, are you thinking of gearing it towards students, alumni, or both?
Dogmeat

Whichever yeilds the most hot sluts who will come to post here.

They can be student-sluts, alumni-sluts, or even just sluts, I really don't care.
impala454
If you want new people to come and stay, the first thing you have to do is quit letting people post stupid shit like what Brandon does. Yall spent all that time putting up flyers and advertising and shit, peak someone's interest, then they come here and see some stupid ass anime hardcore porno pics. Or some stupid NSFW avatar. I got sick of blocking this crap and finally just had to block everyone's avatars and image posts. I don't mind reading his posts when he's actually discussing something but the line needs to be drawn on NSFW images. Even in the love & adult related section IMHO.

I'm thinking we'll revert to something similar to the RaR rules regarding images. NSFW images will not be allowed in avatars or signatures but may be linked to (with a "NSFW" next to it).
woody
Is it possible to put add-in NSFW tag, like insert NSFW image/url?

[NSFW]http://url[/NSFW]
impala454
I think you're shooting yourself in the foot allowing that stuff at all, IMHO. At least, if your goal is to get tons of people to use the site.

Well, I think some things are perfectly ok to link to, as long as they are marked as NSFW.

Things that won't be allowed are posts full of naked women, sorry Dogmeat.
Spectatrix
So... all NSFW stuff linked? No LRAR exception? (Thank God...)
impala454
Well look at someone like Dogmeat or Brandon's definition of NSFW vs someone else's.
