John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods, wrote a really well thought out piece for the WSJ on how there are better ways to reform the healthcare and insurance system and his customers call for boycott.

Logically, this would make the people boycotting the store healthcare reform opponents, since that is what Mackey is advocating for. Maybe Pelosi will call them Nazis and we can all sing Kum By Ya together.

Another reason it's stupid for business owners or famous people to express controversial opinions.

yes i agree but if he feels so strongly on a subject he should voice his opinion. He knew the risks before writing that article.

Just because someone is famous or owns something doesn't mean that they can't voice an opinion.

Didn't say they couldn't voice an opinion, just that it is stupid for them to do so (at least, stupid in the business sense).

They'll be back buying from Whole Foods in a week. I doubt they will be able to go even a few days without their pesticide free produce and purified flavored water.

The funniest thing was that the boycott/protest was ACTUALLY working. You would see couples/families with their canvas bags ready to go grocery shopping walking nearby, yet I never saw a single person enter the store while I was watching the "mayhem" -- ten bucks though that they drove their Prius to the next one three blocks over...

Since I heard about them organizing a protest at the one in Tucson on Craigslist, I went shopping there today.
