We usually meet every Friday at 2:00 pm in the Rec's big mat room (first floor). If it's already taken, then we'll meet in the top floor corner mat area.
No-gi grappling, although we'll start incorporating strikes soon. Turnout is usually rather light, unfortunately (2-4 people). But it's still fun and a great workout. ::EDIT:: MIXED MARTIAL ARTS This post has been edited by Psykopath: Mar 2 2008, 05:01 PM -------------------- |

I need to go and learn some grappling.
My grappling skills are limited to the armbar and a couple chokes (and I have to get lucky to pull any of those off) It's the one section in Tao of Jeet Kune Do I never really did much on. |

I love ankle locks, toe holds, and leg/knee bars. Not too heavily emphasized in America, as far as grappling goes (mostly in in Japanese jiu jitsu).

I need to work on my takedown defense
Besides just trying to be agile, the only thing I've ever really used was a knee to the face. |

no experience is really necessary. you have some, so that is good though. We usually watch some of the bas rutten instructional series and practice those holds for a bit, then we grapple for a while.
Heh, we had a couple of police recruits show up a few weeks ago. They saw us rolling and thought it was cool so they asked to spar. They essentially kept trying to punch us, use small joint manipulation, pressure points, etc. We told them that it's just grappling, but they kept going hardcore. So we preceeded to tap them with armbars and guillotine chokes and the like. Fun times... ![]() BTW: Obviously, we are amatuers here. Anyone's welcome to come out and learn a few moves, get a good workout, and just have some fun. I'm going to submit Cathryn a minimum of 50 painful times on Friday at her house, if she'll let me! ![]() This post has been edited by Psykopath: Mar 1 2006, 09:39 PM -------------------- |

QUOTE (Seussninja @ Mar 2 2006, 04:23 PM) Are you that lazy to read the thread? I know it has something to do with martial arts, and in all probability part of MA stands for Martial Arts, but where in the thread does it say what MMA stands for? What is the extra M for? I've read through it and I fail to see where this term is defined. Psykopath started the thread out listing meetings times and what not, but why does he assume everyone in the world knows what an MMA club is? |

QUOTE (M1N10N @ Mar 2 2006, 10:14 AM) how long do you go for? [edit] do you also have waivers for injuries? We usually roll for 1-2 hours, depending on how many people show up, obviously the more the better. Each rolling session with a partner generally goes until one is able to submit the other, no real time limit No injury waivers. Like I said, we aren't an 'official' sports club yet. We'll have to go through bureaucratic hell to make it so. If you have a mouthguard and cup, that'll help. Trust me, we aren't trying to kill people here. We generally know each others limits/strengths and such. We'll make sure no injuries occur. I'll admit though, don't be phased by a bloody nose or a busted lip or "mat burn." That stuff happens often, not all the time, but often. -------------------- |
