You guys have come up with some interesting situations, but they're not typical situations where one would carry a computer around. I mean.. backpacking? I suppose I'm just thinking your general uses like taking them to school, work, vacations, etc. No doubt you can come up with a situation where it makes more sense, but it seems to me those are the exception and not the rule.

Exactly. I think netbooks have their place, but will always have smaller market share than regular laptops. I have online acquaintances that only needed something cheap, light, no-frills for school and netbooks fit that bill perfectly. I, on the other hand, use a laptop as my exclusive computer at home, so I didn't feel bad about splurging. Granted, it's no uber gaming machine, but that's what my husband's computers are for.
