So you feel that we're the nicest, friendliest, loudest, most obnoxious, cocky people?
You mention big truck stacks on a pickup... something I might see once a month... maybe not even that often. Nothing bigger in Texas? What kind of dumbass statement is that. It's a catch phrase. Just like the "everything that happens in vegas stays in vegas". Excuse me while I go over to some UNLV message board and shit talk them about how "Nothing that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, HAR HAR HAR!!!!" And of course you'd live in Austin... that's where the emos go |

sounds to me that cmac doesn't hate texas, but that he hates how he can't relate to us. i'm not saying this in a cocky asshole fashion, because i don't denounce anything he said in his last post. (except the dualie pipes on your truck... i see that on rare occasions, and i can't help but comment on how small the drivers dick must be).
he sees us as loud, obnoxious, cocky and gun-toting. i know for sure i fit that bill, and i know that most of my friends do as well. but he's failing to understand how we feel about people like him. the cowardly, snivelling, snide remarking, "i'm superior because i care about the enviroment, and i'm sure the government will protect me" hippies. when said like that, it's definately more hurtful than what i mean, but it matches exactly how we stereotypically see people like cmac. the probelm i see it is that the people like cmac and us "texas stereotypes" have one very similar flaw. we are not accepting of others different from us. we can't relate, so we hate each other. -------------------- |

QUOTE You mention big truck stacks on a pickup... something I might see once a month... maybe not even that often. i saw it a lot, but whatever. big trucks that are lifted with huge mud tires and winches that have never been off the pavement are along those lines as well. and "cowboys" that have never ridden a horse or set foot on a ranch. -------------------- Don't sweat the petty, pet the sweaty.

I'd much rather be from a friendly accepting state that is PROUD, than be from a cocky rude elistist state.
But then again im not a cocky rude elitist.... those are just who i dislike (which-ever spectrum of politics they are on). -------------------- |

it's a catch phrase that reemphasizes the cockiness i am referring to. Uh, earth to whateveryournameis: catch phrases like that aren't started by the people that live there. They're started by visitors and tourists. yes. nice and friendly is something that is taken for granted and missed when it's gone. not dealt with on an everyday basis when i'm there. there's a difference. You failed to see the point. The point being that in the same breath you mention two completely different stereotypes and seem to be ok with both being a generalized stereotype for the entire state. i saw it a lot, but whatever. big trucks that are lifted with huge mud tires and winches that have never been off the pavement are along those lines as well. and "cowboys" that have never ridden a horse or set foot on a ranch. I fail to see how dressing a certain way or having large tires makes a person cocky. Sounds more to me like you just don't like that kind of stuff, so you associate it that way to justify your own feelings about it (i.e. OMG I don't like that, so there must be something wrong with it). For the record I think having large tires like that on a truck you mostly drive on pavement is stupid. But I don't think it's cocky. |

You failed to see the point. The point being that in the same breath you mention two completely different stereotypes and seem to be ok with both being a generalized stereotype for the entire state. i get this point. i mentioned the stereotype that people are friendly because i was ok with it in the first place. i am not ok with the other stereotype. it is acceptable to have two different opinions of the same people. I fail to see how dressing a certain way or having large tires makes a person cocky. But I don't think it's cocky. everyone i've met that drive these things is cocky for no reason. this is my opinion. you are entitled to your own. i believe that the 'small penis syndrome' phrase to insult these types of people came from this cockiness. also, the sky is blue. go ahead and tell me it's aqua-marine hex #1f82de. -------------------- Don't sweat the petty, pet the sweaty.

i get this point. i mentioned the stereotype that people are friendly because i was ok with it in the first place. i am not ok with the other stereotype. it is acceptable to have two different opinions of the same people. So... you hate Texas because some people are cocky but others are nice... are there not cocky people in other states? Or is the clothes someone wears or vehicle they drive the only determining factor in your 'judgement' of an entire state? everyone i've met that drive these things is cocky for no reason. I'm sure you've met so many of them. You hate them because of what they drive so you wave them over to say hi and try and be friends with them don't you. You're forming your opinions based on watching someone drive. That is stupidity in its finest. You can take the nicest, sweetest, humblest old lady and when she gets in her V8 Caddy she'll run your ass off the road. Same with everyone else. Doesn't matter whether they're in a civic or a F350 with a 10" lift and super swampers. Everyone is an asshole on the road. this is my opinion. you are entitled to your own. Definitely, and I am making my opinion known. If you're going to express such an enflamed opinion, you can't wuss out and not expect some pushback. Though I still maintain that you only do this for attention, which we are providing and should make you feel all nice & emo-happy inside. So since we're exchanging opinions, it's my opinion that your reasoning is stupid and unfounded, and based more on the threatened feeling you get seeing someone drive a vehicle that's larger than yours. Do you see someone who wears boots and cowboy style clothing, but is driving a honda civic as a cocky bastard too? Doubtful, though I'm sure you'll say whatever you want just to try to make yourself sound more reasonable. i believe that the 'small penis syndrome' phrase to insult these types of people came from this cockiness. No it just came from seeing a large truck and making fun that the person was "making up for something else". I don't see where cockiness comes into play. also, the sky is blue. go ahead and tell me it's aqua-marine hex #1f82de. whatever that is supposed to mean. |

i just like the outdoors in a much different way than killing deer. But therin lies part of your problem. You see Texas as a whole as a bunch of deer hunters. That's an ignorant opinion. There are several major cities here and an extremely diverse population. It's silly to pin everyone as a cocky big truck driving hick. It's simply not true. |

the probelm i see it is that the people like cmac and us "texas stereotypes" have one very similar flaw. we are not accepting of others different from us. we can't relate, so we hate each other. I'm an environmentalist, liberal, educated, atheist, but I still love Texas. There is something to say about whenever I met a fellow Texan over here and I ask them where they are from, they respond "Texas" -- not the US. Not only that, they'll sit a bar and talk with you for hours even if it was the first time they met you -- that's how amazingly nice and genuine they/we are. And most of the time they are the gun-totin' lone-star drinking, country music listening people that I might have some political clashes with, but that doesn't mean we can't get along. Sure I don't think we're the "perfect" state and I certainly think that we have our fair share of problems (public education sucks for one) but I really wouldn't trade places with any other region. Something certainly special about it, even though I might not agree with the majority of citizens on key issues. My 2 cents. -------------------- ![]() |

And one last point: I got into an accident with one of those jacked up trucks once. We were both in the turning lane to go right south onto University when he went about ten feet into the intersection before noticing that a car was coming and proceeded to back up into my Ford Focus without even knowing I was there because he couldn't see me in his rear-view mirror. So I might be a little bias on that topic...
