They're going to vote on putting a resolution through to impose a 90% (yes, nine zero) on the AIG bonuses. This is absolutely preposterous, and turning to socialism at its finest. QUOTE President Barack Obama, who took office just under two months ago, told reporters Wednesday that his administration was not responsible for a lack of federal supervision of AIG that preceded the company’s demise. But Obama added, “The buck stops with me.” Obama said his administration was consulting with Congress on creating a new “resolution authority” to seize giant institutions like AIG — including all their toxic assets — whose collapse in normal bankruptcy could cause calamity in the financial markets. So, not only does he say he's not responsible for the bill he signed, but feels he's justified in creating a new bureaucratic structure for the purpose of seizing private institutions!??! This sets a precedent for our democrat pres/congress combo that scares the hell outta me. What are they gonna do next? Tax the EIB network for everything they've got so they can shut down Rush Limbaugh? |

I see you fell for the bullshit Obama spouts too. Obama fights the evil executives woooooo!!! Yay Obama!
Obama hands them over $100 billion and then turns around and bitches about them paying contractual obligations for $100 million???!? are you kidding me? You gonna hand me $100 then bitch about how I spent 10 cents? It's stupid. But again, all the sheep see the great and wonderous Obama fighting the eeeeeeevil executives... Either way, my point is, if you let bullshit like this slide, what's next? Any time the govt doesn't like something they can tax the shit outta someone to take them down? |

All these greedy fuckers should be charged with treason. Seriously
I can see why Edward Liddy would be hesitant about listing the names of the people who got the $165m. He knows they're targets for all the families whose lives their greed destroyed. If they get executed with piano wire around their necks, so be it. Surprised it hasn't happened already, to be honest I know the 90% would set a very bad and maybe dangerous precedent but I'd rather get the money out of those fuckers' hands by any means necessary -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

Instead of making proper limitations on how money given is spent, with oversight (which im against giving money in first place), lets give out money no strings attached and then increase taxes on a specific group of people (unconstitutional much?) for that money.... yeah thats a better way of doing it.
Whats next, some genius in D.C. suggest we just start printing more money -------------------- |

I didn't fall for shit, you fell for the bailouts in the first place which should never have happened. Sure you did, you're cryin about 10 cents on $100 just like Obama wants you to. If a private company accepts money from the federal government, guess what, that company is now pwn3d by the federal government. Wow.. can't believe I'm reading this coming from you. Companies accept money from the federal government all the time in the form of tax cuts, so now what do we do under your "pwn3d" system? Does company X get to write off an extra $10 million if it accepts some government watchman onto its board of directors? You're the conspiracy theorist and you can't make that connection? Moral of the story is that the government needs to stay out of private business even in times of a depression. Of course, and I agree, but you can't give a company money so they can keep it running, then bitch about how it gets spent. Keeping employees is kinda an important part of running a business. If you care that much about how it gets spent then you need to include that in your bill. |

I see it both ways. Cutting executive pay or ridding them of bonuses isn't the answer to the problem. On the other hand, when there are so many people without jobs, maybe that money would be put to better use by creating jobs within the company.

this entire fucking thing was blown entirley out of proportion.
bonus' are taxed at the highest federal income tax level when paid out, which is %37 currently. State income taxes are then added onto that. So, even with existing laws, roughly half of what was paid out as bonus money was ALREADY going back to the federal government. Do you honestly think the people getting these bonus' were going to get anything back on their taxes this year? Of course they weren't. So now, they want to tax the bonus' paid out by certain companies at %90. Now, the bailouts being a complete fuckup idea nowithstanding, this *IS* communism. The government is targeting specific COMPANIES and telling them how to run their business, and making a political scam out of it to save face with the public .... Do you honestly believe it never came up in congressional debate that the federal money might be used to pay out contracts to employees? Oh wait, it probably didn't because NOBODY FUCKING READ IT BEFORE THEY SIGNED IT, and Chriss Dodd, the wonderful liberal scumfucker that he is, put language in the bill allowing contracts (read bonus') to be paid out.....Then he tried to blame it on Obama? This whole thing is such a complete clusterfuck on so many levels it's staggering, but employees expecting their employer to make good on a contract is the LEAST of such things people should be worried about here. This is the typical knee-jerk feel-good media bullshit and a bunch of scmufuckers in washington trying to save face on their colossal fuckups. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

Except it's not 10 cents on $100, IT'S $100 MILLION ON $100 BILLION It's exactly the same thing. That's part of my point. You guys get so caught up and wowed by large numbers you don't see what Obama's doing. Nobody seems to even ask about where the other 99.9 billion went. You cant seem to think for yourselves. All someone has to do is get on TV and go "OMG eleventy billion dollars was handed on a silver platter to teh EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL executives!" and you'll grab your pitchfork and pea sized brain and join in. |

What the hell? Of course I want to know what every cent of the $100 billion that mine and other taxpayers' dollars is being used for. The government should have never given out any money without closely monitoring what it was used for And cut it out with the Obama bullshit. Remember what dipshit signed the $700 billion bailout....your homeboy Dubya -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

Remember what dipshit signed the $700 billion bailout....your homeboy Dubya uh, wtf are you smoking. Bush didn't sign shit. He proposed the much, much smaller bailout idea. Obama is the one that turned it into what it is now and signed it. |

As I recall, AIG got 85 billion in September, another 38 in October, then 40 in November. Separately, Bush signed the 700 billion bailout package on October 3rd. And then, yes, Obama signed another 789 billion dollar "stimulus package" on Feb 17th. This post has been edited by Spectatrix: Mar 20 2009, 03:15 PM -------------------- |
