This article explains a lot of the cash and financing incentives going on right now for trucks, SUV's, and minivans. If you scroll to the bottom, there is a chart of specific deals on certain vehicles.
Cathryn, your "haha, I own a Prius" BS is not wanted in this thread.... hence why I put it in off-topic instead of NPR. This is just to help people out. http://finance.yahoo.com/loans/article/105...nd-Truck-Buyers |

This is a good quote from the article
QUOTE Should you bite? Yes, but only if the vehicle makes a better fit for your driving needs than a more compact, fuel-efficient model, says Nerad. "Someone shopping for these kinds of cars has serious carrying need in people or cargo, so a Toyota Prius just isn't going to cut it," he says, "and a $5,000 cash incentive buys a whole lot of gas."

I saw on tv the other day an advertisement from a car company for buy one get one free. I think it was if you buy an suv/truck you get an economy car free.
I thought there was no way it was true, but hell they advertised it and didn't give any disclaimers (like this is a joke) so it must've been for real. -------------------- |

Damn, that's shitty.
I'm pissed because I could have bought my truck now for the same deal I leased it for. GRRR... oh well. I lost no money when I traded it in. |

I paid 23 for my 2006 chevy crew cab 5.3L 1/2 ton in june 2006. same thing in a 2008 right now is goin for about 18-19. $27,000 for a 2005 2500HD ECSB LT, 8.1L / Allison ..29,000 on the clock when I bought it. That price also included a "bumper-to-bumper" 4-year 80,000 mile extended warranty, I think the actual price for the truck was right around $25k. This was last November. I didn't get a good deal on it even back then, I needed a truck and I needed it soon so I pretty well paid what the retail price on it was at the time I could probably the the exact same truck for $20,000 now. If only I'd have had some patience to put up with my POS truck i had awhile longer. ... but, I know for a fact I would have had to put another $3,000 worth of tranny in that thing this winter. Blah. I have too expensive of hobbies -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

yeah, I mean, if you think about it, the money you save can just go towards gas and you pretty much still even out, if not come out on top. Last I heard, GM is giving out $7000 rebates on their trucks. Assuming a realistic mpg for the prius (46 mpg by consumer testimony [not the EPA lies]) and $4 a gallon for gas, that $7000 translates into 80,000 miles worth of gas for the prius, and only 30,000 miles worth of gas for a 17 mpg truck (again, real consumer testimony for both a 2008 Tundra, and 2008 Chevy, not the EPA stated 22 mpg bullshit]). Effectively, a truck costs $17,500 per 100,000 miles more than a prius. For a reasonable mpg comparison, say a vehicle with 30 mpg, that still translates into a little more than $10,000 per 100,000 miles more. Even with the $7000 rebate, a truck is still pretty damn expensive to operate. But despite that, some people really need trucks. -------------------- ![]() |

Doubtful, unless you want to keep that vehicle until it no longer runs. You'll never make up for it in the depreciation you lost if you try to sell it. -------------------- Beers that I have had, updated July 5th, 2009: 1,548

Yeah, Alot of people have no idea how much trucks cost when compared to small cars. Maintenence is a lot more, fuel, tires, everything. I put together a spreadsheet nearly 10 years ago that tracked every single cost I could think of your vehicle might incur, figured in depreciation, then broke it down for you in cost per mile .... I quit keeping records because it made me sick how much my truck was costing me due to it breaking down all the time... but, it was an eye opener. With that said however, I fully understand how much more I'm paying for it, and I'm willing to pay that price because I need it to have fun If I ever move to Denver or something I am DEFINATLEY buying a small car to commute with. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

I have too expensive of hobbies that's a helluva nice truck man. hell that allison is about a $5k option by itself. that is pretty much the exact truck i wanted to get, but i wanted to buy new and couldn't justify 30-35k (not to mention i have nothing to tow yet). i dont mind being upside down with a vehicle i really enjoy. i've put speakers and subs and wheels on my truck so far and plan to build a computer for it, so i figure it's just a vehicle i'll have for good anyhow. |
