i got offered a job for 41k with MHMR I will work for them as I go to graduate school (intership is part of the degree) but sure you know way more about psychology jobs than someone who spent that last semester applying to them!

let me ask - do you work? are you considering accepting any positions at the moment? sounds like your life is pretty much dead in the water. not something i could have guessed 5 years ago...

I don't work because I have a high risk pregnancy. Thanks for asking. I was working at some kids center for troubled youth, but I got punched in the stomach at 5 months pregnant. I think I'll stay on my maternity leave for now since I'm 2 weeks away from being full-term and I move in 2 months. Already been sending my resume out in Savannah. Want to rub in that I have a high risk pregnancy and cant work?

I'm excited that my baby will come sometime here in the next month

and i looked into psych jobs too... and have done so since I graduated in 05. Believe it or not, I qualify for many of the same jobs you do so I looked into that route. I pride myself in being aware of what certain career paths pay. I read a lot. Hence why I know so much about the pay in the nursing field, the teaching field, other fields. It's good to know what other things pay and what opportunities are out there in different career paths.

No. Pretty much any engineering job that would take an entry-level ME. In the Austin area, though.

Yeah, but I don't think they were offering you the same jobs other "typical" me graduates such as myself would get .... If I remember right, that job you got offered from Schlumberger was far above the typical "field engineering" job that most people with a non-petroleum engineering degree would get from them ...

I don't know, I guess honestly it surprises the hell out of me people weren't literally beating down your door to hire you

The job with Schlumberger was a tech center job. I.e., design work. I actually interviewed for Tech & Field, which would've been 18 months in the field (usually international), then work at the tech center. Dunno if they decided I wasn't suited for field work or just decided that they'd get more use out of me by putting me immediately into design work. *shrugs* I turned it down because I decided that I didn't really want to live in Houston.

But yeah, even when I was looking more or less nationally, I wasn't getting much interest.

National: Offers from Schlumberger & Boeing, one phone interview with a place I wasn't all that interested in anyway, and one on-campus interview for generic Lockheed-Martin crap.

Austin: Interview with one retarded place that I damn near walked out of, offer from the place I ended up taking my first job with, and would've had an offer from a UT research lab had I not accepted the offer for job #1.

That was my preference, but not all I was applying for. I just wanted something better than being a $10/hr CAD monkey.

If I could afford to do it right now I'd go back to school for a master's but I'd switch over to PE and study reservoir engineering ... I'd be a shoe-in for a good job with an oil company doing well completions if I knew anything at all about how oil reservoirs actually worked at a core level

I kinda know some stuff about it from my job, but it's only a superficial basic understanding

I know so because minimum salary for first year teachers in the state of Texas is ~26,000 dollars. Sure, you can make more elsewhere, but some school districts can't afford to pay more than the minimum. Why should the students suffer the worst teachers just because they live in a rural community? I don't think they should, so I'll give them another year of my time at minimum wage.

To Cathryn, though, it's all about how much money you make... not about whether you are doing something somewhat charitable, if you are happy at your job, etc. Money seems to be the only reason she chose such a high-paying career path like psychology.
