SAO PAULO, Brazil — A deep-water exploration area off Brazil's coast could contain as much as 33 billion barrels of oil, the head of Brazil's National Petroleum Agency said today. That would make it the world's third-largest known oil reserve.

Haroldo Lima cautioned that his information on the field off the coast of Rio de Janeiro is unofficial and needs to be confirmed.

Geez... I sure wish we were allowed to drill in Alaska and find us a huge reserve. Oh well at least we're saving the bunny rabbits and moose population rolleyes.gif

I'm all for drilling in Alaska now.

That's right, this "tree-hugging hippie" made a complete 180.

They'll still have to import the resulting bi-products (diesel) as their refining capacity is next to nothing.

but at congress the oil tycoons said their record profits and additional tax cuts are the only thing keeping their heads above water in these complicated times!

I think it's possible to drill for oil and still be environmentally friendly. I think it definitely has to do with the profits of oil tycoons.

You guys need to pull your heads out and realize that american oil companies do not set oil prices. remember back about 15 years ago when gas was like $0.80/gallon? that was back when we produced enough oil for ourselves, and even exported some. well now that we're not allowed to drill to feed the expanding need for oil, we have to import something like half of what we consume. importing = expensive.

so don't act like some dude at exxon just has a profit dial and an evil look on his face as he cranks it. it's muhammed abbabbabbajab towelhead over in saudi arabia with his 500 ft yacht and 400 bentleys that's making you pay more at the pump.
