if it follows this track it'll be interesting to see what it does in gulf considering the mountains in cuba typically shred hurricanes

well that prediction and what I've heard on the news shows it staying a hurricane the whole time. I don't put a lot of faith in the 5 day cone, but the 3 day cone is usually fairly accurate.

Hannah was predicted to hit Savannah dead on for, but then like 3 or 4 days ago they changed the prediction to the Carolinas. The storm made landfall early this morning I believe. It sprinkled lightly here yesterday. Today was super sunny. In fact, we went to the beach for a while. It was an awesome day weather wise here in Georgia. I just hope Ike stays the hell away from us too. So far, it looks like it will.

If it looks like it's gonna hit dirty side to us as a 4 or 5 we'll prob head to my sister's place in otchlahoma. though that track is still pretty far out and will prob change a few times over the next few days. ~wed or so is when we'll really know where it's headed.

new track has it being a TS after cuba, then restrengthening in the gulf. yay, just like i thought, proof i'm learning something from my MS in Atmo.
though once it gets off cuba, it'll be real interesting what it's intensity does. NHC has been having a hell of a time forecasting tropical cyclones after they get off Cuba. hell, they even way overestimated Gustav. over the last 10 years, forecasting intensity hasn't improved at all by anyone. stupid unpredictable hurricanes. |

So then predict right now where it's going to go so I can quote it since you're the weather swami.

in circles
i'm no weather swami, nhc just changed it to still being a hurricane after cuba, and they might change it again...and again...and again i just like to think i know a little more than the average person (but just a little), i work with some people who are very very experienced with tropical cyclones and i know barely anything next to them. i'm just saying that hurricane prediction is....frankly fucking hard. |

BWAHAHAH YES
1-2 possible days off here I come! thanks, weak ass storm which is going to barely touch Houston! QUOTE (NASA) Hurricane Ike - JSC is in Level 4. Status as of 4:00 pm, Tuesday, September 9. Due to the uncertain path of Hurricane Ike, JSC has decided to initiate Level 4 status. This includes preliminary preparations to secure the Center. Employees are simply asked to be aware of the continuously changing weather situation and to look for direction from their organization's Emergency Preparedness Representative.

Man, I wish I was getting Thursday and Friday off. Hell, I wish I had today off. With my boss out of town, there's not much incentive to show my face.

well days off still remains to be seen, but they are pretty liberal with shutting the place down even if the chances are low. that "level 4" status is what they did just before they sent us home for edouard
