In a decision that is sending shock waves throughout the homeschooling community, the Second District Court of Appeal in Los Angeles ruled that all California students between the ages of 6 and 18 must attend either a private or public school full time until they graduate or be tutored by a credentialed teacher.

I just love it when government tries to parent other people's kids.

For some people, they need to. Especially in California.

Home school is sometimes used as an excuse to not have to worry about school at all. I agree with it, as long as the government never touches private schools.

That'd be fine... if they were doing it for "some people" and not "all people".

So because a few families abuse homeschool that means the other 95% have to be punished too?

People need to learn that just because they're biased one way or the other doesn't mean that every one else has to agree with you and do the same exact thing.

On a side note I wouldn't even have to point this out had you been homeschooled instead of brain-washed in public school to believe that everyone different from you is wrong.

Hence why I said "I agree with it" and never said that everyone has to agree with me. Don't pick on me because everyone else has been arguing with you. I'm just here stating what I think.

"On a side note" I didn't go to public schools. I went to private. I have a brother who was home schooled for a year because of his schizophrenia. The private school he went to didn't have the means to accommodate him. My mom finally opted to put him in a public school which has not worked out well at all. I just think that private schools are mostly a good alternative to public.

You still don't get it. You agreeing with the decision means you agree with depriving honest homeschooling families from doing homeschool, and why on Earth would you want to do that?

Because I think it's wrong. I realize that normally the Spelling Bee champs are home schooled, but for the most part home schooling is just used as a way to ride the system. Do you want a bunch of dumb people entering the job market? The government isn't doing it because they are losing money (in fact, I would think that they spend less with kids being home schooled). They are most likely doing it because of the quality of education kids are getting in home: shitty.

From what I recall the trend is that on average a child homeschooled does better in college than a child who went to a public/private school.

If you know of a study that says otherwise then please enlighten us with it.

Ok, what you're saying is that a home schooled kid does better in college? Ok, break that down. That would only include those kids that actually WENT to college. What is the percentage of kids that are home schooled that don't even make it to college. That is what interests me.

I'm not getting involved in this statistical BS that has started between you, Cathryn and Zach lately. I can find articles, but I'm sure you can find some to support your claim too. It's pointless. I'm allowed to have my opinion, and I'm allowed to feel that my opinion should be enforced. That's what is great about America, Lance. I am not going to get into it with you.

Studies about homeschool vs public vs private aside, I don't think the government has any business in deciding what's best for your child.

Dude, the kids that I have met that are home schooled are creepy. There is a Home School Lobby Day at the Capitol and the kids walk into our offices try talking to the Legislative Aides. Notice I said try... these kids look down the entire time and have no social skills. Poor kids. And their parents are looking at them like they are G-d's Chosen Ones.

Home schooling is great as long as it is done right.
I've met home-schooled kids that have zero social skills and met others that are the life of the party.

But I agree with the general consensus: Government, don't fuck with my kids.
