WOW... $1.3 billion

I'm no microsoft fanboi, but that does seem like a pretty steep fine. I'm curious though. Specifically what information have they been expected to release that hasn't been released?

The commission is examining whether the bundling of Internet Explorer into Microsoft Windows has unfairly excluded competitors from the Web browser market.

I still have yet to ever understand this... that'd be like saying because my truck came with general tires that exludes goodyear from the tire market. It's kinda shitty if your OS doesn't come with any way to browse the internet, yet when you include one, you get tossed into an anti-trust suit... seems like a no win situation to me.

It will also investigate whether Microsoft withheld essential information from companies that wanted to make products compatible with its ubiquitous software, including Office word processing and spreadsheet programs.

I wonder what "essential information" companies wanted to make products compatible w/word and excel?

I'm no fanboy too, but the EU likes to punish excessive success.

So who gets that money?

Honestly, I think microsoft should give the EU the finger, not pay the fine, and ban all of europe from using its products. See if they like that better.

I don't like how internet explorer is integrated into the file browsing system, but other than that I don't mind it being there. *shrugs*
