For those that are for comprehensive sex education do you support gun safety education?

I dont want my child being taught how to have sex. I want them to teach abstinence but also inform how to use condoms and birth control in case. These days when kids ask "when is it ok to have sex?" teachers will answer with "when you feel you are mature enough and have strong feelings for that person." ummm.... teenagers have strong feelings for every marginally decent looking person that passes them in the hall

I don't feel it's a schools place to teach any morals whatsoever. There's too much pressure on schools as it is with the terrible parenting that goes on. Teach the anatomy, let the kids giggle when they hear the words penis & vagina, and leave the ethical & moral issues to the parents, it's their responsibility.

Like a gun safety course being required before you can get a handgun license? Yes, actually. I have no problem with everyone having 15 guns, but please, PLEASE know how to use/own/store them safely.

I don't think they should be going into details about "here's doggy style", "here's missionary style", etc., but I definitely want comprehensive birth control/STD prevention education. Emphasize abstinence if you want, fine, but tell kids about condoms, birth control pills, IUDs, subdermal implants, Depo Provera, etc.

in schools, they teach kids good hygiene... and not to steal... and stuff like that. what makes this any different. Abstinence for teens is good hygiene AND its morally better for them IMO

well, duh. Im saying I want them telling my kids that sex is not for persons their age before they tell them how to use all that stuff. Telling a kid to wait until theyre in love is stupid.

Does that mean you're against sex education entirely?

I think they should ideally mention the facts (abstinence is 100% effective, condoms have x% failure rate, etc.) but leave out the discussion of whether pre-marital sex is right or wrong and similar issues.

Abstinence is good, but abstinence-only education is retarded. Durrr, we're going to ignore the fact that you horny little teens are gonna have sex anyway and will fill your heads with lies about condom effectiveness. (Not dissing you, complaining about the typical abstinence-only freaks).

i must have missed the good hygiene class and do not steal class.
i think i got taught to wash my hands before cooking in home ec and that was pretty much the extent of good hygiene.

I haven't a problem with them telling kids about condoms and birth control. I just want them telling kids that sex is not something they should be doing (especially the kids in 5th-9th grades)
