How much would you pay for labor? problem is shipping with you... i trust your work... (would trust Chuck better though) but it's gonna be more pricy to get you to do it than it would chuck... heh.. then again... chuck is the absent-minded proffesor, and you'd prolly do it in a much more timely manner.... argh! i have an old cd drive.... but i don't have a dvd burner... feh. need the little flashlight, need to know how much shipping would cost both ways... feh... already getting lazy lol -------------------- |

i think you should be able to do this yourself, brandon.
it seems like there is very little soldering required. |

CompUSA has some cool little LED flashlights for sale that can be had for cheap due to clearances that would make perfect housings for this. I have one of hte $13 pre-20% off keychain lights that I managed to take apart. All I need now is a laser diode. Gonna check eBay.

I'm gonna run by the Goodwill computer store here in a bit to see if I can pick up some dvd burners for cheap. Wish me luck!

No luck. They didn't have any and if they had, they'd have been 20 bucks (bit more than I'm willing to spend for a used burner), BUT... they test them. So I'm gonna call next week and find out 1) what they do with the ones that don't work and 2) whether I can take them off their hands for free/cheap. I'm also checking on this with the surplus department at work, after I asked our IT folks.
If neither of those sources pan out (but I bet work will), I can always advertise on craig's list for broken burners. I figure some at least should have the DVD laser diode intact, even if other things are broken. This post has been edited by Spectatrix: Feb 1 2008, 04:56 PM -------------------- |
