What companies do you buy your components from? I know of digikey but see people say it's a little expensive. Is stuff from Radio Shack ok or is there a kinda "newegg" of this stuff online somewhere? I'll mostly just be building some small projects at home involving serial/USB com stuff. If I like it enough I may get some pcbs fabbed too, is there a good well known company for that as well?

digikey and mouser are the two I use.

Depending on what parts you are looking at you can get free samples and only have to pay shipping...

As for PCB fabs, http://4pcb.com/ can do a two-layer board for $33 dollars which is the cheapest that I've found...
