Yes they have to be lined up. Not saying its some awesome way to transfer files, just mentioning the reason why it's on there to begin with. Keep in mind these phones are a few years old and were developed before the whole bluetooth craze. Yeah it's probably not something I'd expect to see on an iPhone. Just a really cheap part that wouldn't have been too hard to have in there.

Yeah, but i think that so few people still use IR that most phone companies just decide not to bother with it. I can't remember a recent cell phone with an IR port.

yeah, I think it was introduced mostly to aid the phone companies in saving/xferring data between a customer's old phone and new phone. was a good idea back in the day, and nice to see that its so easily reprogrammed smile.gif

if you remember back far enough, even a bunch of oldschool nokia candybars had IR, there just wasn't much of a use for it. It didn't even get _moderately_ important until palm started putting them on their PDAs.
