The PC drives are actually not too bad considering the price of the standalone players. LG has a combo Blu-ray/HD-DVD drive for $279 on newegg. If, that is, you want to watch movies on your PC, or have gone through the disgusting pain of setting up a good PC->HDTV connection.

I don't see why people seem to go to so much trouble to try to convert people over to OS X to Windows or vice versa anyway. I mean, it's a freaking computer. If someone has different tastes than you, then so be it.

Well I've read enough of Chris Pirillo's BS in Computer Power User magazine that I basically just skip over his articles now because they're worthless. Same w/that Alex "Saint" John or wtf his name is that writes articles for them. I forget what Pirillo's beef was but the Alex guy got laid off by Microsoft while he was a high ranking member of the directx project and has a mountain of a chip on his shoulder about everything Microsoft.

They do it because they hate Microsoft for being a successful company. It's the same reason people hate Wal Mart, the Yankees, the Patriots, USC, Exxon, Shell, etc.

And Apple isn't a successful company?

I think it's more the egocentrism effect. I think this is the best, therefore it's the best for everyone. Apple users and Windows users are equally guilty of this. As are the Linux nerds.

I disagree. I'd say it's definitely much more "Yours sucks" rather than "Mine is the best". Just look at advertising nowadays. Hell look at Apple's advertising. Almost all the Apple commercials I've seen in the past 8-10 years have been "haha look at PC it sucks". Rather than telling you why Apple is good. Signs of a weak product IMHO (or in the very least, a shitty adversiting team).

I use linux, windows, and os x, all on a near-daily basis. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I like my macbook pro for most things, but I'll probably upgrade my desktop when I feel like getting back into PC gaming.

Heh... BeOS sucks anyone?

At any rate, there's some truth to what you're saying. It just doesn't seem as fashionable to talk about Linux sucking (although that does seem to be getting more and more popular as time goes by).

I dunno...my MacBook runs Windows better than my PC does....it boots up quicker, everything runs faster. And I am able to work in applications in OS X while using Windows at the same time.

And actually, I've won over my converted friends by showing them what my Macbook CAN DO rather than by bashing Windows.
