There were thousands of these gnats outside just now. They bit me and my husband all over, and it hurt like a SOB. Now I itch all over

Gnats do bite. Female gnats need a blood meal in order to become fertile. Plus, I am positive these were gnats because of their size, the quantity, and the fact that it was dusk which is prime time for them to be out and about.
