Defense is playing well so far, we just need the offense to step it up.

The only way to battle a good team is to just become absolutely worthless offensively !!! Bonus points if you do it against a team who isn't very strong at pass defense !!!

Blah...
-------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

I've grown immune to disappoinment from Tech. I go into each game assuming a loss and just get pleasantly surprised sometimes.

Whoever runs our defense is fucking retarded. They would just run right up the middle because we only had 5 guys in the box. You know, after like 3 14 yard runs right up the middle you'd assume we'd actually start playing near the line of scrimage instead of having our corners back like 5 - 10 yards, but no, let's just keep them back, not put anymore people in the box, and continue to watch them run up the middle for another 14 yards. New defensive coordinator with a new defensive system, this constantly defending like they're going to pass obviously isn't working as shown by OSU game and now this. Now you'll probably say that it worked last week against A&M, but A&M only runs, they don't pass at all so that doesn't count for shit.

The new defensive coordinator took over 3-4 games ago and has actually done a lot of Tech's defense.

Actually, the reason they had so much success running the ball was because they spread out our defense and we don't have the guys up front on the defensive line to keep those run plays from gashing us for big yards. The Tigers have two NFL caliber tight ends, and they have to be respected, so we had to spread out our linebackers to cover them up. It's really a pick your poison type deal, either get gashed by the run or get tore up over the middle by two tight ends who will be playing on Sundays next year.
Help is on the way at the end of the semester, though. It won't help this year, but we're getting three JUCO defensive linemen who will be here for spring practice that will definitely make an impact next season. You all probably remember McKinner Dixon from 2005, he's back after a stint at Cisco JC. Also a guy named Broderick Marshall, who signed with us in 2005 but didn't have the grades and ended up at a junior college. The big guy, though, is a guy named Brandon Sesay out of a California JC who literally could have gone anywhere he wanted. He's a huge, huge defensive end and he'll start from day one. Couple the newcomers with the guys we already have on campus and it looks like our defensive line could be pretty salty next year. The bottom line is that the defense isn't what lost us the game. It was 24-10 heading into the third quarter, it was still competitive. It did seem like the defense kind of threw the towel in late, but by that point the game was already over. What killed us was a lack of execution on offense. |
