I am having a total brain fart today...
I need help figuring out the name of the literary device where the author intentionally names characters whose name itself evokes a certain connotation...mainly used for extra emphasis with colorful characters. examples: Darth Vader (sounds kinda like dark invader...both of which are kinda dastardly/evil) Han Solo (solo...lone wolf type) does anyone know what the hell I am talking about? |

well that's what it's like, but I am looking for an actual term for the device...like 'deneumont' or 'personification'...but not those at all, obviously.
fuck I hate losing my intellect. |

couldn't find it but searching "onomastic" and "toponym" might help.

couldn't find it but searching "onomastic" and "toponym" might help. under onomastic, I found the closest I've been yet... For some cultures (and celebrities), only one name is needed to indicate a certain person without ambiguity. In others, a single personal name may be insufficient, requiring alteration to a hypocoristic/diminutive nickname or addition of a byname based on a specific individual's traits, family, home, occupation, or other. In most of the world, individually-based bynames have become hereditary family names, perhaps retaining little descriptive resemblance to the ancestral namesake's original byname. but not quite it... |
