I have to say, I think the brushed metal looks cool but I don't like the black around the screen. The new keyboard looks pretty sweet but I wonder how sturdy it will be. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

because we all know the only valid reason to own a Mac is that it looks cool I do like the specs on it, and the fact that it is thin and doesn't take up a lot of space is great too. However, the black makes it look unattractive. If a Dell machine looked like this with those kind of specs, I'd be interested too. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

i look at owning a mac the same way i look at owning a monster truck.
sure, they are powerful, but you can't use them for anything at all except their intended purpose. so why waste the money? -------------------- |

i look at owning a mac the same way i look at owning a monster truck. sure, they are powerful, but you can't use them for anything at all except their intended purpose. so why waste the money? I use mine everyday just as I would a Windows PC. I am lost as to what "their intended purpose" is. Are you referring to the old days where everyone thought that Macs were for people doing graphics? My mom went into the Apple Store on her own and was impressed. She uses Thunderbird on a PC and asked if it would work on a Mac, I told her yes. She asked if Word would work on a Mac, again, yes. She is thinking of buying a lower end iMac or Macbook and dumping her desktop PC. What do you do on your PC that you can't do on a Mac? -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

use Visual Studio. Not to be facetious, but I'm sick of hearing this question, so how about this one: What do you do on your Mac that cannot be done on a PC? (for a lot less money no doubt) I cannot edit movies (full blown films) on a "cheaper" PC. I also cannot find a Windows laptop with Firewire 800 unless I get it built ($$$) Oh, and I can use Visual Studio when I dual boot. The fact that lately I haven't used Visual Studio makes this unnecessary. Just as I am sure you don't edit movies all the time. Also, there is something to say about the .9" thick MacBook Pro, the fact that it is so thin helps in travel as it does not take a lot of space up in my bag (and it's not that heavy). Just like you are sick of hearing the question, I am sick of hearing people knock Macs because of their price. Price a similar PC to the $1499 iMac and let's see how even they come out. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I cannot edit movies (full blown films) on a "cheaper" PC. I guarandamntee you you can edit full blown films just fine on an equally priced PC I also cannot find a Windows laptop with Firewire 800 unless I get it built ($$$) $100 = $$$? Oh, and I can use Visual Studio when I dual boot. The fact that lately I haven't used Visual Studio makes this unnecessary. Just as I am sure you don't edit movies all the time. Well with a PC you don't have to reboot into some other OS to use it. Also, there is something to say about the .9" thick MacBook Pro, the fact that it is so thin helps in travel as it does not take a lot of space up in my bag (and it's not that heavy). I see two laptops on the apple site, both show 1" and 5.4 and 6.8 lbs. There are plenty of PC notebooks that will fit at or very close to that. If you come back and start talking about how much 1/4" makes a difference, this conversation will simply end in roffling. Just like you are sick of hearing the question, I am sick of hearing people knock Macs because of their price. Price a similar PC to the $1499 iMac and let's see how even they come out. with pleasure: iMac $1607.68 ($1499.00 + 108.68 tax) 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 GB 667MHz DDR2 (1 stick) 320 GB 7200 RPM HD 8x DVDRW ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256MB audio? doesn't say... I assume some kinda speakers built in? 20" LCD Mouse, KB, Mac OSX blah blah etc etc 1 yr warranty (can call or bring in to any apple store) Dell XPS 410 $1545 (free shipping no tax) 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GB 667MHz DDR2 (2 sticks) 320 GB 7200 RPM SATA HD 16x DVDRW nVidia GeForce 8600 GT DDR3 256 MB 7.1 audio 22" Widescreen LCD 13 in 1 media card reader Mouse, KB, Windows Vista blah blah etc etc 3 year in home warranty (for $62 more they'll even cover accidents) Comparison CPU - same RAM - Dell has twice as much HD - same DVDRW - Dell is twice as fast Video Card - up for grabs I guess... I'd say they're probably pretty even, although personally I think they both suck -Apple (Radeon 2600 pro, retail price $99) Clock = 600MHz, Mem Bandwidth = 12.8 GB/s -Dell (GeForce 8600 GT, retail price $150) Clock = 540MHz, Mem Bandwidth = 22.4 GB/s Audio - Dell = 7.1 output, comes w/2 speakers (attachable to panel). Monitor - Dell, 2 extra inches (heh insert cock jokes here) KB - personal preference, but the dell kb is definitely bigger, the mac one looks like a damn notebook kb. (carpal tunnel anybody?) OS - blah blah personal prefs Warranty - Dell is 2 years longer, all in home, don't have to go anywhere or ship anything. Price - Dell is $62.68 cheaper |

yet another crappy product from a crappy company which is supposed to revolutionize the world.
Haven't you people learned in the last 25 years that nothing Apple does is worth a shit despite their best intentions? I mean its like they're a fucking 6 year old kid who tries so hard to win at the track meet but just fails miserably you have to give them credit and think they're cute but when it boils down to it they just did so bad you can't really like .... give a shit -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

I guarandamntee you you can edit full blown films just fine on an equally priced PC Thank you for proving my point. It would be an equally priced machine. There is no "holy grail" PC out there that can do some of these things cheaper than a Mac. $100 = $$$? Good point, but two things, I don't want to carry one more thing, my bag is full enough. Also, my ExpressCard port is usually filled with a SprintPCS modem. Well with a PC you don't have to reboot into some other OS to use it. True, but I don't really care about rebooting. I see two laptops on the apple site, both show 1" and 5.4 and 6.8 lbs. There are plenty of PC notebooks that will fit at or very close to that. If you come back and start talking about how much 1/4" makes a difference, this conversation will simply end in roffling. Let me clarify, I don't know of any PC laptops that thin that have a built-in DVD burner/CD drive. I know of ones that have drives you can connect and ones that have horrible battery life. If you point me in the direction of one I'd gladly take a look at it because I am in the market for a light PC. with pleasure: iMac $1607.68 ($1499.00 + 108.68 tax) 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 GB 667MHz DDR2 (1 stick) 320 GB 7200 RPM HD 8x DVDRW ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256MB audio? doesn't say... I'd say they're probably pretty even, although personally I think they both suck -Apple (Radeon 2600 pro, retail price $99) Clock = 600MHz, Mem Bandwidth = 12.8 GB/s -Dell (GeForce 8600 GT, retail price $150) Clock = 540MHz, Mem Bandwidth = 22.4 GB/s Audio - Dell = 7.1 output, comes w/2 speakers (attachable to panel). OS - blah blah personal prefs Warranty - Dell is 2 years longer, all in home, don't have to go anywhere or ship anything. Price - Dell is $62.68 cheaper I do have to agree with you, the Dell does come out slightly on top, though not by much. The DVDRW only matters to some people, but the RAM is a slightly big deal. The price difference is negligible (when you're spending $1500, $62 isn't much, but I do have to agree that the Dell would possibly be a better buy if you aren't looking at OS. My whole point for posting this thread was to just point out that new iMacs are available. I could really care less what other people use. I am writing this on a Windows PC right now and I personally don't like it. Does that mean I will continually knock PCs? Hell no. I don't see Vista as this huge, world changing thing, but apparently some do. I think the reason that Apple is so big on hardware is that originally their business was fitting processors, etc. into a neat little box, so they continue to try and do that. We have to admit, the main things people are doing with computers today are e-mail, photos, music, word processing, web browsing, and the occasional movie. The battle now is to appeal to those markets. I really don't think Macs or PCs have fulfilled the needs of the consumer, but when one does they will take the market quickly. Again, I didn't post this thread so that we could argue about how stupid Macs are or how underpowered they are. You are in control of your pocketbook, not me. I simply stated an opinion on their look in the original post and nothing constructive (except impala's post) has been posted. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

face it... for once impala actually won an arguement without resorting to putting his fingers in his ears and screaming "LA LA LA I'M NOT LISTENING LA LA LA!"
