http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4989349.html and the fry dunkers rejoice! as well as just about every student job on campus, which makes me happy for several of my friends. But oh yeah, forgot that raising the minimum will destroy AMUUUUUUUUUUURICA in the most unpatriotic of ways. -------------------- |

That would make too much sense. Obviously everyone should have the same minimum wage without regard to cost of living, just because it's the right thing to do.

This was passed by the state right? Im not sure how the constitution would allow other wise... Through commerce clause? (not that the supreme court would rule something unconstitutional passed under the commerce clause... stupid switch in time)
Either way, capatilism has put the rate at over that for years, so the increase shouldn't effect much. Only the worst of the worst jobs make minimum wage... even walmart pays a couple bucks above minimum wage. -------------------- |

In places like my hometown, minimum wage goes a lot further than in a place like Dallas. -------------------- Spam? Isn't that something poor people eat?

Actually that was kind of my point, just poorely typed. I was just saying that market economy has decided the level more than anything. In small towns like your's minimum might work, but in most places its "naturally" higher pay because of cost of living... anyway... sleep now -------------------- |

So it's decided then. This minimum wage will was enacted to make it look like the Democrats were listening to the little people, all the while realizing that the actual minimum wage was not $5.15/hr for the vast majority, so they can get more votes. Brilliant!

you cant make it a state issue. what happens to businesses when minimum wage is $5 in tx and $10 in new york? there would be chaos.

What we are bound to see nationwide now is the people who didn't notice an increase in wage (those who were making above minimum wage, like $9), demanding more pay on the account that the people below them are getting more. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

wouldn't it be similar to states who have a minimum wage higher than the national level? eg (5.85 in TX and 7.15 in NY)?
