I dunno how or why this word ended up in sports, but it needs to get axed. It's the stupidest sounding phrase I've ever heard used to express something in sports. "Vince Young makes a nifty move", "Lebron James just had a nifty move to the basket", etc.

Add everything Stu Scott has ever said during his tenure with ESPN.

Dancing With the Stars has more of a reasons to be on there than World Series of Poker. At least some athletes compete in that dancing show.

Yeah, but athletes are in it. And since ESPN reports on athletes, then it sort of has a grounds for being on there.

uh oh now we're getting into that discussion of sports vs games again...

football = sport
baseball = sport
basketball = sport
hockey = sport (even though it sucks)
golf = game
poker = game
spelling bee = game
auto racing of any kinda = eh not really a game.. not a sport either /shrug

anyhow, if it's a popular game/sport/driving competition, it will be reported on, no matter how much it may not be an actual sport.

i mean really... would you rather see auto racing or WNBA?

Don't give me that ignorant "golf and racing aren't sports" spiel. I dare you to get in a fire suit, sit in a car that's about 120 degrees, and drive 150 mph for four or five hours. Odds are you'd be dead within the first two laps. And golf, while colossally boring to watch and play, is as much of a sport as baseball and football are. Just because there isn't contact doesn't mean it's not a sport.

I find both unappealing, but to deny that they're real sports because you dislike them is pure idiocy.

john daly sums up golf's degree of sportness.

and nascar drivers only need to be in good enough physical condition to fit in a car and not have a heart attack behind the wheel.
anyone can drive around in circles for three hours.
