KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Sprint Nextel Corp. isn't apologizing for its decision to ax customers it determined were calling customer service too often.

The nation's third-largest wireless provider sent letters to about 1,000 subscribers June 29, saying the company's records showed they had made frequent calls for help with questions about billing and other account information.

"While we have worked to resolve your issues and questions to the best of our ability, the number of inquiries you have made to us during this time had led us to determine that we are unable to meet your current wireless needs," the letters said.

The customers were told their service agreements were being terminated, they wouldn't owe anything on their final bill, and the company would waive early termination fees. They also were told to switch to another wireless provider by July 30 if they want to keep their phone number.

Only 1,000 people, but still pretty funny. Probably people who kept calling about stupid stuff or repeatedly cussing out the reps, etc.

damn I wish I had called more. sad.gif. I have sprint and I hate it. The reason they have so many calls is because their service is shitty. The fact that you have to listen to hold music and an automated voice for about 20 minutes before you even get to speak to a customer service rep probably only exacerbates the problem.

Outsourced ones you don't have to wait soo long. I have sprint, and they have the worst customer service and their coverage is bad in tucson.

heard kinda an update this morning on the radio, apparently these 1000 people had averaged 100 calls per month to sprint and were essentially wasting their time and eating up time that would have been better spent on other customers. so really this is a move to help customer service.

i don't have a problem with their customer service. yeah the wait can be long sometimes, but there's not too many companies you can call customer service for and not have to wait. imho customer service is a small consideration in choosing a cell phone provider. coverage, options, phone choices, and pricing are way more important to me than a customer service call I'll make 3-4 times per year.

So cell phone companies can terminate the contract for any reason without penalty, but consumers cannot? Nice.

Dunno. I'm not under contract, so I know I can be terminated at any given moment.

well then you can't have a cell phone because most or all major companies require one or two year contracts

And once your contract expires, you're no longer under contract, which is what I was saying, assuming you made the word change to appease me for whatever reason.

wasn't there word that something might change concerning the contract lengths these providers force you into?

i remember there was talk about reducing the lengths or the fees they nail you with if you cancel the contract

i also heard that they wanted wireless providers to offer free phone upgrades instead of discounts for loyal customers
