My girlfriend sent me this link after I told her about a conversation I had with a co-worker. We were talking about China and the slow takeover they are making. We are in debt to them and they aren't willing to call our bill because they like the money that is coming in and are using it to build cities. It's like they are ignored problem. They have nukes, they are losing natural resources, they've bought up most of Africa and Australia for their natural resources and pretty soon something is going to snap and Japan will become China's Puerto Rico. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I've been saying this for years. China can crush our economy at the time of their choice and could easily overwhelm us militarily. It's a war waiting to happen.

Fear China? LOL Our Navy is far superior, and the only way they can get their army over here is by sea. Be more afraid of Mexico.

yeah i'm not worried about china at all. if anything, all this commerce they're engaging in is turning them into the united states of the east. they wouldn't do anything to harm our relationship because they like all that money.

I'd still worry about China. In my line of work, we work on missile defense. They work quite well so I loose no sleep over China, but they are a powerhouse.

But what happens when they decide to call our tab? I think the latest numbers of money owed to them was in the trillions. They don't really need an army. They have nukes, they missiles to launch them, and they have a desire to keep growing. They are already an importer of some foods, at what point do they say "ahh screw it, let's take over Vietnam, they're ripe for the picking"? -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

QUOTE First, Russia and China are not historical allies. Indeed, though they were both Communist countries during the Cold War, oftentimes the Russians were just as worried about what the Chinese were doing as they were with the West. This worked to the advantage of the United States as we were sometimes able to play them off each of each other. Furthermore, the Chinese and Russians do not have the capability to send an army of any significant size to invade the continental United States. The Russians can barely operate day-to-day as it is, and wouldn't be able to logistically support an army in the United States even if, by some miracle, they were able to get it here. The Chinese have a lot of men, but their navy is far, far inferior to ours in both size and quality; Japan and South Korea have navies that are comparable to China, if that helps put it in perspective. Assuming for the moment that the Chinese were able to build the massive amounts of transport ships without the United States finding out, they wouldn't get a quarter of the way across the Pacific before we found out. Quoted a post I wrote a while ago to save myself some trouble... Basically, in a straight-up conventional war, China would be fucked if they attacked us. NATO (UK, Germany, France, Canada, etc.) would be committed to join in our side, and it's highly unlikely that China would have any substantial allies. |

great britain is way more big brother than america is and the majority of people accept it that's because they're gay and want to be told what to do so that their hormones are kept in check by an outside entity and therefore they have to exert less effort to not randomly buttfuck everyone after they drink their tea. I know this for a fact. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

But what happens when they decide to call our tab? I think the latest numbers of money owed to them was in the trillions. call our tab? gimme a break this isn't some bar tab it's international economics. nobody wants to do anything to upset either side. They don't really need an army. They have nukes, they missiles to launch them, and they have a desire to keep growing. nobody will ever launch a nuclear missle attack on us, because they know the consequences. not to mention we have laser planes that could shoot them down if anyone wanted to try. how would they keep growing by destroying us? who would buy all their cheap electronics? They are already an importer of some foods, at what point do they say "ahh screw it, let's take over Vietnam, they're ripe for the picking"? no one wants to upset the status quo. also, nobody wants to piss us off, or draw our forces out of their normal operations all over the world. we're the strong arm of the law all over the planet, and nobody else seems to want to pick up the tab for that. so until china wants to spend the insane amount of money it takes to police the globe, I don't think we have anything to worry about. |

impala, all of your comments are based on the assumption that the U.S. is a de facto power in the world. In truth, the U.S. is slowly moving out of that role, much like Great Britain no longer being the dominating power it was before WWII.
China just sent a "police force" into Sudan and other peacekeeping elements into other parts of Africa. So they can do that and understand it. International economics yes, so it's quite simple, they want their money just as much as bartender. They are getting paid just enough now to keep them happy, what happens when they aren't happy anymore? We are financing their growth but what happens when they want food? It's a great motivator to takeover land. Just look at history. Why did Japan invade China? Why did Germany go after Russia and the Ukraine (besides genocide)? Why did the Romans invade the surrounding areas (and yet leave the governments in place)? As China and India suck up natural resources and start competing against each other for food sources (since China is expanding into its ag area) they're next step will be to buy food (till they get tired of paying for it), then they are going to forcefully look for land to supply their population. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

If they're looking for land, they'll have to look on the Eurasian continent because all they can hope to do to the American continents is to air strike, if that. An opposing force from another continent will never occupy US soil. The Atlantic and Pacific Oceans are our best natural defense to foreign invasion. If they nuke us, then they lose the food source that they were after, so that's not an option. China should not be a concern to us, at least not for the reasons indicated here.
