Ok, here's the idea. We'll create a big list of all the free software out there to assist users in finding software to meet their needs. If you have anything to add to this thread, post it here and I or another mod will edit it into this post. If I'm missing something in the OS key, make sure to note it in your post.

Please note that this does not include "trial" versions of commercial software or any software that comes included by default with some operating systems (like Internet Explorer or Mail on OS X).

(Please note that this list is very Mac heavy right now as that's the OS that I'm the most familiar with)
