fairly rare thing, not quite as impressive from AL teams, but still pretty sweet nonetheless |

Why isn't it as impressive? If anything, I'd think it would be more impressive since you have to face nine hitters instead of eight hitters and a pitcher that pretends to swing a bat.

What would be the no-hitter equivalent in other sport?
You know something that happens about once a season for one particular player. Maybe like a 60 pt. game in basketball? --------------------  |

It's less impressive (IMO) in the AL because you never have to PH for your pitcher (which is also why you see way more complete games in the AL). You also have your pitcher getting more rest between innings. The DH in the AL tends to be a big slow guy and is easily doubled off or walked.

I can see that side of it. I've wanted to see someone walk the opposing pitcher everytime they go up to bat just to keep him on the bases. I've noticed a trend where that pitcher tends to give up a big inning after being on the bases.

right, or the times in NL games where your pitcher is doing awesome, but you have to pull him because you're at bat, behind, and have the bases loaded with 1 out and your pitcher at the plate.

Yeah, but that's a bad example. If the pitcher is throwing a no-hitter, he's not going to be pulled.

sure they will. pitchers get pulled all the time in the NL even though they're doing great. you have to score runs to win games. I guarantee you every day of the week, in a NL game, you are batting, late inning (5thish), game is 0-0, bases loaded 1 out, pitcher gets pulled every time, no matter how well he's doing. with the only exception being pitchers that can really hit well (there are a few batting .250 w/a handful of RBIs/homers.
and btw I'm not necessarily agreeing with that strategy, just saying that's what happens. |

I think it depends on the mentality of the coach. There are some organizations that are very centered around pitching and others that are very centered around offense.
