of course it's a culture in your mind. you signed up for that club. even got your decoder ring. but because you feel so deep that you can relate to a certain "group" of people simply based on a few VERY loose generalizations based on lifestyle, music and clothes makes you a sheep i grew up rough too, so don't gimmie any of that crap. because by that logic i should be firmly entrenched in the ghetto rap scene pimpin' dubs on my POS car with 2 baby mommas and a welfare check. you are who you make yourself. everyone is an individual. searching for a flock of people that you feel you can blend into to justify your identity makes people sheep people identify with others. thats how we evolved and survived in the first place. i dont think that makes one a sheep. and i dont think they are loose generalizations at all and its far more of a culture than simply dress and music. those are the weakest similarities -------------------- Little monkeys making money

I'll say this on the trend of alterna emopunk as a mainstream scene... I like it an azzton better than the bowhead, bangs, wild print, paula abdul pop, flourescence of the late 80s. I do not, however, like trendy girls (or guys for that matter) that glom on and act like they invented the wheel. dress cute, go to your show, but don't tell me how it "is". thats what i'm saying. the entire elitism thing pisses me off, and it goes both ways. either you're the super cool punk kid that no one will ever be as cool as you, or you're the super indie guy who doesn't want affiliation with anything, but is making so much of a scene to pretend he's created his own cool club. get rid of all that. be who you want to be, and leave everyone else alone about it. no one is going to truelly "understand" you except your close friends cathryn, and they hardly represent the whole of the entire cool kids punk club. ( no matter what you call yourself, cowboy, punk, goth, etc) -------------------- |

i never claimed to want anyone to understand me brandon. im perfectly hunky dory. im talking about the bigger picture
i myself am something more than a person who has lived/believes in a alternative punk style/lifestyle/philosophy. people can get the idea of the whole me without understanding what i think Punk is. what i am saying though is dont make the most recongizable/vocal attribrute to your body or mind something you dont even relate to. i mean come on she had some shitty ass taste in music! if you think of yourself as someone who respects the rights of others dont then spout off about Big Brother and personal barcodes imprinted on babies heads as a great idea. loose example -------------------- Little monkeys making money

in the late 80's and 90's we created a scene so thriving that it created a huge Outsiders type rift in amarillo...had our own colors and name...which several years later also caused my buddy's little brother to get run over and killed because he was part of that.
we glamorized our fuck off attitude. it was a romantic notion, albeit a juvenile one. all that them/us is rough if carried too far. |

it's a look. basschick liked that look. I like that look.
but the look doesn't make one 'punk'. being 'no bullshit' about what you do does. that testmonkey guy seems pretty no bullshit. |

Wow, this got off topic...
