Okay, so i just switched to OpenDNS, under the premise that it's faster and has oh-so-nifty-even-though-i-already-have-them features and whatnot, but i'm wondering if anybody else from the area has noticed any real speed increases.
The reason I ask is that OpenDNS seems to have servers in every corner of the US except texas. Seriously, only Hawaii is farther away from all the OpenDNS servers in the country than Texas. (Which is retarded considering the cost of bandwidth down here is pretty fucking cheap.) Anyways, that's prompting me to wonder if verizon's FIOS DNS servers might actually be a bit faster than OpenDNS. Also, are there any problems I should be aware of with openDNS? I know somebody on here has to have heard of them before. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.

you won't really notice any speed changes, except maybe very minor speed increases when you visit sites you've never visited. you only hit a DNS server whenever you attempt to resolve an address you haven't resolved before. once an address is resolved it's saved to your hosts file. if you really want to test the speed though, change your settings back to FIOS, do an ipconfig /flushdns, then visit some sites. change your settings back to opendns, do another ipconfig /flushdns, and visit the same sites again.

I know how DNS works
and yeah, since i'm a digg whore, i'm visiting new sites all the time. I'm also too lazy to really test it any further than that because it seems on par. I was just curious -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.
