I am going to be in Austin the weekend of the 15th and was wondering what some good, nice (not formal but close) restaurants are. I know of Carmelo's and it's good food but I was wondering what some other options were.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have been to Pappadeux's a few times but I can only eat about 3 things on the menu due to my shellfish allergy. I am looking for places that are Austin specific and not chains. Thanks! glad to see a fellow shellfish allergic. have you had it lately? i had it when i was really young and have stayed away from all shellfish since. basically i'd puke it up really bad and get pretty sick.... a while back i decided to try some crab (real crab i know it wasnt imitation) and i found i've grown out of it mostly. havent tried shrimp or lobster yet though (heh, you gotta pick a time to try it when you don't mind puking and being sick). |

I go into anaphylactic shock within about 15 minutes of eating shellfish so it's not one of those things I try to see if I have gotten over I can't tell you any of the nicer restaurants but if you want to i can e-mail my brother who lives in austin and he can tell me. I have been to the Magnolia Cafe and you are absolutely right, one of coolest places. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Trudy's isnt super fancy but its cool as shit. Its a TexMex place with a really cool bar and its always packed because the food there is great.
Also there is a really neat Mexican restaraunt that moved into the Real World house. Everyone that goes there dresses nice (not suite and tie nice, but still dressed up) but the prices are really cheap. Im trying to think of some upscale restaraunts that arent chain.... Is this for a date? There is this restaraunt that overlooks lake travis and has gorgeous views, but people kinda dress down for that and its outdoors which might not be a good idea for the winter. There are a TON of really upscale restaraunts downtown. What type of food are you wanting and I'll pull up a list online and let you know what I have heard about a couple places. |

Find out of they have a "Brazillian-style Steakhouse" there like Texas de Brazil ....
If you only buy the $40 dinner plates and none of the "extras" they try to sell you it's actually worth the price you pay -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

Jessica, yes it's for a date. I am thinking that Italian or a steakhouse would be the best. Also, anything really unique.

Trudy's is yummy -------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

oh you know what I thought of.... Apple Annie's.
Its a badass little restaurant and bakery. Its located on 6th and Congress Very intimate setting....dress nice but not formal. Its a quaint little place There is Benihana...thats a Hawaiin steakhouse. I dont know if its chain or not. Dan McKlusky's is another popular steakhouse I cant think of any non-chain Japanese steakhouses off the top of my head |
