I'm going to be getting a new checking account soon and wanted to see what recommendations people might have on banks. I'm going to be in Austin, so either big chains or local Austin banks are viable. I've had a Wells Fargo account in the past, which has been ok, but I won't be eligible for their college checking account and thus can't get free Bill Pay.
I'm looking for:

Wells Fargo is by far the worse bank, period. Some of the nonsense they pull I think borders illegal. America State Bank is also a bank I wouldn't recommend, however, hands down is better than Wells Fargo.
I think the only reason why people use Wells Fargo is because it's hip and those using them haven't had much experience using any other banks. I do not know if this bank is in Austin, but definitely check out City Bank if they are. They are fast (and honest, unlike Wells Fargo) for online banking. I do believe they have free checking (in fact, in the past and possibly now, they'll pay you to open up an account with them). I have had nothing but a positive experience with them. -------------------- ![]() |

Thanks for the recommendations. Billy, I presume you meant Citibank, not City Bank, right?

Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

Thanks for the recommendations. Billy, I presume you meant Citibank, not City Bank, right? City Bank may be Lubbock only. So I also vote for America State Bank. -------------------- ![]() |

bank of america fucking sucks.
it took 8 days for two debit charges to hit my account. 8 fucking days! they held my paycheck for 5 days without any reason they held a 5 figure check for 3 WEEKS before letting it clear. the check was drawn from a boa account and deposited into another boa account they tried to charge me $200 in fees because i opened a savings account and never made any deposits, because i realized how shitty their service is. i just finally sent a response letter telling them to, in effect, go fuck themselves. First State Bank in austin is excellent -------------------- only here to talk sports occationally

Isn't America(n) State Bank West Texas specific?
