I had some blood work done last week and got the results this morning. Apparently, my "bad" cholesterol is high.
What is the best way to deal with this? My doctor said to stay away from fatty foods but to be honest I am a pretty healthy eater. I do not exercise much so would increasing that help? -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

i wouldn't say you have bad cholesterol unless you have multiple tests done in a reasonable amount of time.
if you go out and have a high cholesterol meal for some amount of time before your test it can actually skew the results. drinking heavily within a week of a blood test can skew other results too. |

I had to fast to have the tests done and haven't drank in about 3 weeks. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

dude you are talking to the reigning king of high cholesterol...
excercise if you don't normally and it may help, but for me it really doesnt do too much. I excercise, but like those guys on the drug commercial that look healthy and fit, I obviously was on my damn death bed. in the spring my test showed that my bad cholesterol was 430 and triglycerides were at frickin 900. they called me the day after I took the test and made me come in...thought I was gonna kill over. I am positive there was some kind of fluke spike in my test. yes you have to fast, but what you eat the week prior can really affect the test. now my bad is down to 175, good is high, and triglycerides are at 220ish. I took omega-3 fish oil pills twice daily and 10mgs of crestor daily. that shit works. no side effects. covered by insurance. take care of that shit man. it'll kill you. |

Mine definitely wasn't 430, more like 180, which is why they didn't think it was a spike. I am supposed to go back in and get it done again later this week. I am going to completely cut the fast food out of my diet (I eat Chick-fil-a once a week). -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

High doses of nician are used to help lower the low density. But nician will make you itch.

Just to clarify, my bad cholesterol is the one that was high (LDL I think). It is supposed to be 120 and it is significantly higher.

my HCL last time i got it checked out was near 400, my LCL 230ish or so. The sad thing is I barely weigh 135lbs.
(My cholesterol is genetic.) I need to start taking Lipitor or something similar again. Probably in Jan. when I quit smoking. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.

why wait until January to quit?
I dont get that. New Years resolutions are gay. They are way too easy to break because its something that can be done for a bit and then if you give in...oh well, there's always next year. |

because i'm moving back up to lubbock in january, so it's a change of enviroment, change of people, a hell of a lot colder (makes it harder to smoke outside) and because cigarette prices go up by $1.00 in january.
and i've never kept a new years resolution in my life, so i figured now would be a good time to start. Iunno, it seemed like enough reasons for me. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.
