To try and steer this thread back on topic...

I was a pretty heavy drinker freshman and sophomore years (fraternity and freedom). I found that I had a weird ability to drink myself stupid and wake up the next morning feeling fine. This was a short lived feeling.

My drinking habits dropped junior year because of health problems and never really picked back up. I just lost interest. Yeah, I'd go have a beer or a margarita with friends but the every weekend partying just fizzled out. For one, I don't like people that much and the other reason being that I hated waking up with dry mouth at 3pm and realizing I had accomplished nothing that weekend.

Yeah, I had a couple more nights where I got too drunk (birthdays) but I regretted it.

I've slowly become a completely social drinker. I'll go have a drink and that's it. I have a glass of wine occasionally as well. The main thing with going to bars with me is that I strongly dislike smelling like an ashtray when I leave. I have no problem with people smoking in public places, especially a bar, I just prefer not to smell like it.

Eh, there's my $.02

QUOTE (Throwdown @ Nov 17 2006, 09:43 AM) *
oversensitive much? you sound like a typical addict justifying and defending their drug.

here's some supporting evidence for him: most of my friends became lazy as hell after getting stoned. only thing they had enough energy for was driving to Short Stop for a chili cheese burger and watching deep intellectual programming like Ren & Stimpy. i should know, i was one of those people for about a year.

i don't need some scientific study to tell me what i can see with my own two eyes. it's called common sense, which apparently you have little of (or you're in complete denial, another trait of an addict). and i don't need some scientific study to tell me marijuana carries some form of addiction and dependency. everyone i know who smokes now smokes greater amounts and more often to get the same high compared to when they started. hmm, that sounds like dependency and higher tolerance to me

zetec you really are a tool

omg, I just totally agreed with throwdown. crazy.

I guess my problem with drinking and getting drunk is that I hear people say "hey, let's go get drunk!" too often and every party seemingly has to have alcohol to be "fun". I drink occasionally, like once or twice a month as of late, but I've been considering stopping even that.

Regarding my particular experience getting drunk... I didn't find it awkward or weird. I just found it boring. Frankly, I find sleep deprivation to be a more enjoyable state of mind and it's cheaper to obtain!

The one thing I did think was interesting about being drunk was that, though my motor skills were impaired (I wasn't falling-on-my-ass drunk, but I did stumble a bit while walking), I seemingly had great clarity of mind. Maybe I didn't really and it was just a trick of the alcohol, but I do know that I didn't say or do anything that I wouldn't have sober.

Last pot comment then I'm off the subject: Anyone ever notice that it's only potheads that claim to have this awesome research about pot not making you lazy or stupid? I don't think I've ever had someone that doesn't smoke pot be like man, pot doesn't make you lazy or stupid.

Hartmann, I totally agree with you. Now being a senior after partying the first 3 years here it's like where the fuck did my weekends go. I'm so sick of my friends being like "let's go to a party!" and then you get there and it's 50 people in a backyard just standing there drinking beer. No one's doing anything but wearing their polo shirts drinking beer and talking about the stupidest shit I've ever heard.

I found that I had a serious problem hooking up with people with tons of making out in public places usually with sober people... Why was this a serious problem you guys ask? Well, for one, I didn't talk to these girls later so it was a meaningful relationship killer. For some reason I had the ability to flirt successfully when drunk, something that I am not good at when sober. I am a pretty quiet guy (I mean, I'm a computer nerd for God's sake) so drinking just made me grow some huevos and talk to people.

I decided it was better to do this on my own rather than rely on alcohol for it.

Exactly. "Dude, man we got wasted and passed out in our yard on a Tuesday".... That's the content of the conversations. I like some intelligent conversations occasionally.

QUOTE (Rocky @ Nov 16 2006, 05:58 PM) *
But to believe it across the board ?
I have friends who do nothing but get high these days. They are zombies, staring into space, speaking slowly, and waiting for the next chance to get high. It's ridiculous for how "harmless" we perceive pot to be. You'd expect that kind of zombification from a "harder" drug.
But also, there are plenty of people I've known who smoke regularly and they aren't burnouts.
Drugs have different effects on people. Not everybody sits on the couch and watches Aqua Teen Hunger Force after lighting up.
It's people's personal responsibility (or lack thereof) that dictates if they continue to use something that hurts them, or makes them useless etc.

same thing with anything else too... cigarettes, i've seen 90 year old men that smoke that have smoked since they were 12 and have no problems. food, i've seen a guy that was a beanpole and his primary meals were ice cream and bacon that he fried in his microwave every day.

the interesting part is, this doesn't really hold true for alcohol. even if you can "hold" your liquor well, you will still get drunk at one point and your liver still gets shot from large quantities at once.

so yeah, while choice is part of the equation, so is your body (at least until they figure out how to change that wink.gif)

ive found that if u cut down the people to just core friends and increase alcohol, fun things happen!

wow, pysex, you're the most uninformed person i've ever seen when it comes to pot. physically addictive? claiming that it causes permanant damage? yes, liver cells regenerate, but you know what? so do brain cells. (as recent research suggests.) furthermore, go bring some sources for your information, because just about everything you've posted in this thread is a giant crock of shit.

out of body experience? what the fuck are you talking about?

you're right...i've never smoked pot and never will
why? because i'm afraid of the psychological implications
i hardly have experience with it because my friends don't smoke it and if they do it's not around me
naturally i have no desire to research about it...it doesn't interest me

if you become relaxed by smoking pot (motor control, muscle relaxation)...that's physical
i don't see how that couldn't be addicting

regardless of what drug you do you're destroying your brain cells
i think the point is moderation...but even in moderation some drugs affect you more than others

IN MY EXPERIENCES with people who smoke pot on a casual to regular basis, they are blatantly retarded.

Don't know why people have to be so fucking superior when it comes to drugs. It's fucking stupid to do any of it, including alcohol, but we're all weak minded trolls with the need for pacification.
