So I bought this printer with a scanner on it the other day and have been scanning my notes into my computer for safe keeping and I came up with an idea. What if I put up a website where people can post their notes for any class that they take at tech? I think it would be a good way for people to get information that they missed in class or if they just want to look over stuff without actually taking the course. Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

that would involve people having a scanner and taking the time to scan them and post them....
i think some people would be too lazy to do all that and those that need the notes the most don't have them -------------------- |

it can also be taken as plagiarism of the teacher's ideas and thoughts depending on the class.

a few of the seniors handed down cd's of scanned notes, homework solutions, tests, labs, and other goodies. we used to scan notes for classes all the time and email them to our groups. it's a good idea for those that want to go through the trouble of doing it.

Before the boards crashed I posted a long thread asking people what they thought about this... mostly because I have a way to post the notes without having to have people manually scan them....

i forgot the guys name, but there was a stats professor who had authorized an ex-student to sell previous tests & homework assignments. it showed all the work & formulas used to solve all the problems
completley helped me pass the class -------------------- |

Here are some thoughts after talking to my cousin (IP lawyer) when I was getting ready to implement this...
1. They cannot be notes that the professor/teacher hands out, that would be plagiarism. 2. Any notes that a student takes, whether from a slide or from lecture are the work of the student and if they turn the notes over, they become the property of the new owner. 3. If you charge for a membership to the site or for the notes then there are other considerations that have to be made. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

very good idea. doubt it'd be up for very long until the school shut it down
some kind of wiki with this idea in mind would be pretty sweet, although not sure how many people would edit it so the info wouldn't be all that reliable. |

the only problem is getting other people to scan their notes, no one is going to do that

you pay people a very small amount for every page uploaded after it's been approved. then charge a membership for people to download, or a flat fee.

it can also be taken as plagiarism of the teacher's ideas and thoughts depending on the class. IMO, it is not plagiarism because they are your notes in your own words. Even if someone did copy word for word from a power point, as long as they cite the teacher and class there should be no problem. It is a really good idea, the only problem like everyone else has stated, is that students are too lazy to scan their notes. The system is dependent on the cooperation of everyone involved. But hey, what do we know? You should go ahead and start it up. -------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?
