yeah
key points: high-power round short rifle (like 36in) lightweight (6lb) forward eye relief scope makes target acquisition fast and you utilize both eyes. it's a model of the "scout rifle" conceptualized by colonel jeff cooper. |

the ad lists it as 799 but it was 699 at gander mtn in amarillo this past weekend.
edit: it looks radder in real life. gives you a better feel for how short this thing really is. the picture doesnt do that wood justice either. not a real long range gun, but it make 1/2 in groups at 300meters. I've engaged anything with a face further than 300. |

dick
I coming down to zero hour on what I am buying next. the show in dallas is next weekend and I still undecided, but that is the allotted time/date for my next acquisition. part of me says to get a nice rifle (and within that I'm torn semi or bolt), part says get a badass carry gun, and the most worthless, moronic, yet eager and horny side says to get another 1911 because they kick so much ass and it's all I'm shooting anymore... I'm torn and my chick is tired of hearing about it... |

i'm pretty close to getting me a 1911 .45. prob a month or so. hopefully either a springfield or colt commander (stainless of course!). wouldn't mind looking into 10mm either, as I've had some recommendations on those (I don't mind a little extra ammo expense).
oh yeah and do you have probs carrying a 1911? this probably would be my carry pistol (or maybe just truck pistol). that springfield compact w/the smoothed off edges would be ultra sexy for a carry gun. |

the colt would be a good call, but I've been seeing SAs and Kimbers that are having way too many problems right out of the box. what's worse is their customer service is unresponsive and tells you "just put 500 rds through it to break it in!"
fuck you it's a $900 pistol and should work! but hey, that's your call...Rock Island Armory has a "tactical" 1911 that is taking the community by storm with it's $500 tag and kickass customer service. my Rock GI came with grips where the holes were a bit too large and make it slip a bit. I didn't care because I am a grip whore and they are the first to go. anyway a few months later I just mentioned it on m1911.org and the customer rep emailed me asking if I wanted checkered or smooth. I didn't have to send my old ones back or anything. I tell you all this because if you're truly wanting an entry level 1911, most in the know will say to go with RIA. at the very least head over to m1911.org and read up on all the company pages before deciding. the colt commander would be a bit easier to conceal than the govt length, but the real "printing" comes from the handle/frame, which on a commander is the same as the govt model. if you want a 1911 "carry gun" you need to get a compact, and to get a good compact takes $$$ I haven't had any problems with concealing the 1911 as I use an inside the waist holster, the problem comes from the fucker being so heavy after wearing it all day. |

I agree...it's looks tight.
but the problem with a compact 1911 is that they have to be super duper highend and custom fitted and worked over by a good smith to be spot on. nothing lamer than a carry gun with malfunctions...which is a fairly common occrance with compacts. why? well john browning designed it as a 5" barrel. period. deviations of it (i.e., shortening) reduce the cycle time so that on blowback the slide doesn't have as much travel distance, which means it may be trying to chamber a round when the spent cartridge is still trying to eject....savvy? if I was gonna get a "compact" 1911, I would look into the Para-Ordanance compacts. they have perfected and tweaked them...external extractors, DOUBLE action triggers...all the shit you'd want in a carry. |

so all in all, probably cheaper/easier to get a standard sized 1911 than a compact. and as far as money.. i dont mind spending upwards of $700-1000 to get something really nice. i'm the type of person who likes to go buy something once, and get the best i can possibly afford at the time (i'm also a sucker for all stainless guns... dunno why I just love em)
