i haven't read this thread in a long time, so i can't remember if anyone has mentioned the taurus pt 24/7 pro. i was hanging out with some people in my major last night, and one of the guys owns the 40 cal, it looks pretty sweet.

i really like the grip, sa/da, and picatinny rail (even though it's something i would probably never use). it's weird, though, because the 9mm and .40cal have had great reviews, but the .45 seems to have a ton of problems with jamming.

taurus has some videos about it on their website. 10,000 rounds (allegedly) fired with the .40cal without a jamming problem:

looks like a good deal for the price (<$400 at academy). anyone ever fired it?

I think that's the gun Mark had. He never had any problems with it. He's got some really fancy crap now but I believe he was completely satisfied with the gun when he got it. He said it was a good gun for the money he spent.

I've never fired that one. But Taurus seems to be holding their own the past 10 years or so. Before there was a quality control issue, but that seems to have been ironed out. The only thing I can say about the .45 possibly jamming is that the .45 round itself is a fatty and seems to only be happy in a single stack magazine.

i'm not a fan of grip safety's. whats the mag size? i've always trusted taureus revolvers, but have been very hesitant about their past in the semi- line

either 7 or 8...like a normal single stack 1911. I use 8 rounders but some people prefer 7 for reliability...thought I've never had any issues. of course there's 10 and up for range use...

what's the beef with a grip safety?

it's in all 1911s due to the single-action nature of the gun. carrying cocked and locked with a single-action requires something to keep the sear disengaged until ready to fire. the thumb safety alone would be scary business.

it just tangles me a little on the draw. not a really excuse, i suppose, my time for drawing from a tactical thigh holster is almost the same for a grip safety or for my SIG, but i notice the difference in my timing. but, i don't have much experience with single action either, i've always carried double action

I will say this about 1911s...they are a "get used to it" kind of thing.

they're not anything you want to carry until you can use them in your sleep...to quote someone who recently fired mine "there's just too much shit going on back there" (referring to the rear part of the gun).

the main mistake I see people do with them is after loading a mag, and racking back the slide, which results in the hammer "cocked", they then slightly pull the trigger and ride the hammer "home"...thinking it's safer that way.

in actuality that is much more dangerous in that 1. it can go bang if you don't ride it home slowly, and 2. you have no firing pin block (like are on double actions), so if you drop the gun it actually could go off just from the hammer bounce.

but the way they are designed is to simply rack the slide and put the weapon on safe...though the look of a cocked weapon makes people uncomfortable.

either carry it in condition 3 (mag inserted, no round in chamber, hammer home), or condition 1 (round in chamber, weapon on safe, hammer cocked).

condition 2 is a no-no for 1911s...yet is the most common mistake double action shooters make. even military guys who are used to the beretta make this mistake.
