Ok, so I just took a job as a directional driller back home ... Essentially what this means is, for the next several (perhaps less, i dunno) years of my life I'm going to basically be living on rig locations 2-3 weeks at a time. This basically means living in a trailer (large trailer, but not as large as a trailer house) for this time.

Anyways, if you've ever seen a drilling rig, you know they don't exactly put these things up even remotley close to civilization, so I'm basically gonna be out in the middle of fucking nowhere ....

With that said, I'm going to go flat out BONKERS if I can't get any excercise.

So, with that said, what type of equipment and what excercises can I do with this equipment that must fold up (literally) into a corner neatly and not take up a huge amount of space when in use.

So far the only thing I've come up with that I'll feasably be able to do is bring a small bench out, and a set of dumbells, some floor mats, and perhaps a jump rope...

With that said, I would prefer to find a bench that is small and light weight, that can incline as I'm going to have to be able to do chest AND shoulders with the dumbells....I can also use the same bench for dumbell rows for a back workout.

Anyways, I figure I can pretty well work my entire upper body with a set of add-a-weight dumbells, however, my lower body will be a different story. The only type of leg excercise I'll be able to do will be lunges. I've thought about trying to do squats whilst holding dumbbells on my shoulders but I don't think this would work very well ....

Anyways, what would you all do if you were me, and what equipment would you buy? Keep in mind I'm going to have to haul this stuff with me wherever I go so portability is a concern,b ut being able to get a decent workout is a more pressing concern ...

you know those elastic bands...those actually provide a decent workout because you can hold them tighter to create more resistence....maybe its just cuz im a girl, but when I took Jazz dance (john can attest to this) she had us use elastic bands during our workout and I saw a lot of improvement in muscle tone.

those are some goofy examples, but you can see where im going. the tighter you hold the band, the more resistence. Plus, they make varying levels of thicknesses in the bands to allow for different levels of resistence.

ps. stop looking at the chick, dogmeat

Could work pretty well in conjunction with dumbells....I dbout they offer enough resistance though?

Bulk up when you're at home; tone and do cardio when you're out at the rig.

Just be careful. Some of the trees growing on those rigs might be holding up tree forts.

if you're going to be out on a rig off shore or on shore you're not going to be able to bring much more than a large duffel bag to hold two pairs of workboots and if you're lucky three pairs of coveralls, your hardhat and gloves. forget bringing a bench. and you're not going to want to be lying on the ground with the mud that'll be everywhere.

there's a lot of iron out there and huge equipment to rig up and down everyday so you'll get enough exercise provided you don't sit in the trailer all damned day.

offshore, you'll have a teeny wieght room. onshore, you're stuck running laps around location and lifting iron.

i so do not miss that life.

Well ... it's not going to be forever, and I may or may not decide to go through with it, it's just going to depend on if I can get anything better going in the meantime.

I'm giving some real serious consideration to doing wireline instead so at least that way I might have some time to go to an actual gym to work out ... but that wouldn't pay near as well sad.gif
