this is the most important post in this thread some places may offer you quite a bit, but if you take into account how much you're actually working, it's really not as much. $75,000 / 60hr/wk / 52wks = $24/hr $50,000 / 40hr/wk / 52wks = $24/hr Yeah, but you are never going to get anywhere in life only working a 40 hour work week, I don't care what profession you go into .... The people who become CEO's and shit don't work 40 hour weeks very often ... -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

well like i said, im only allowed to work 40 hours..until i reach a certain point...government job...thats just the way it is.
now if i worked for a bank, i wouldnt get anywhere working only 40 hours a week...it doesnt show initiative, id probably be working 50-55 hours just to get ahead of the game and show my boss that I deserve to move up...not to mention finish all my work..depending on what position i was in |

If you are harping way too much about salary, moving up to the top, and all this shit
As far as I'm concerned you've already missed out totally. Nothing wrong with wanting to have more money so that you can have a more comfortable life, for the right reasons. Who fucking cares how much you spent at Eurway with that comission check ? If you are willing to let your job, where you are making other people more money, consume your life, then they just bought you. Ew. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |

If you are willing to let your job, where you are making other people more money, consume your life, then they just bought you. Ew. I think the bottom line is you need to decide how well off you want to be. For %99 of the people on this planet, being well-off comes from putting in hard work and overtime. That's the only way to do it. There are very very very very very very very very very very very few jobs out there you're gonna make 6 figures plus only working a typical 40 hour work week. I've looked long and hard for these jobs, and they are VERY rare. Just because you know somebody's cousin's brother's former room mate who maybe works 40 hours a week and makes 150 grand a year doesn't mean you are, can, or ever will. The people who can work a 40 hour week and make a shitload of money are lucky as hell, period. If you do decide you want to be well off, you stand a lot better shot of working your ass off and learning as much as you can about the business you're in so you're capable of moving up in this business than you do "getting lucky" and finding some cushy ass job that pays a shitload. It doesn't matter what industry this is, even if you're a stock broker or a plumber. The other thing is, if somone lets their job "consume" their life, that was their decision. I don't see how it means they've been bought. fact, I think you'll probably find that the people who DO put that much time into work are ENJOYING what they're doing. Nobody is forcing them into slave labor, so why the hell would they be doing this if they didn't want to? It's a balancing act any way you look at it ... there are those who are truly lucky, and if they've gotten themselves into a position they don't have to work a whole hell of a lot to make a lot of money, more power to them, but that's just not the reality for the vast majority of us. I mean sooner or later most people are gonna have to balance work with family time, and personal time, whatever....there just aren't enough hours in the day any way you look at it I dunno....Personally I don't want to be working 70-80 hour weeks my whole life, but I know that if I ever wanna get close to where I wanna be in life, I'm going to have to put that much time in early on in the hopes of later not having to ... I dunno. Might as well work hard while you're young and don't get tired as easy cuz it just gets harder the older you get I think the bottom line is you need to decide how well off you want to be. i can see myself being consumed by my work in the field i am interested in because im really interested in it. but it is a balacing act. i can work 55+ hours a week, i already have, as long as I can take my work home with me or be able to somewhat work around my own hours. then you can balance friends, family and your job a lot more easily.

Yeah, but you are never going to get anywhere in life only working a 40 hour work week, I don't care what profession you go into .... The people who become CEO's and shit don't work 40 hour weeks very often ... But how far are you really getting if you make 50% more for 50% more work? And what makes you think you can't get anywhere only working 40 hours a week? I'd go insane if I had to be up at work 60 hours a week. I like my co-workers and enjoy my job, but if I spent half my waking hours there I'd start to hate it. More time at work = more dislike for your job = crappy life IMHO. "getting somewhere in life/work" imho is making more money for doing the same amount of work. it's the quality of your work that increases and that your company pays you more for. or, as your skills in your job increase, you can get more work done in the same amount of time. |

I guess if you're happy never advancing in your career because you aren't willing to put the time in it takes that's your perogative..... see that's just the thing i'm talking about that makes no sense. why do people assume that time spent at work=advancement? you still didn't answer my question a few posts back. let me rephrase it slightly: if you have to spend 50% more time at work to make 50% more money, did you really make any kind of "advance" in your career? what exactly does career advancement mean to you? is it adding a title to your name? getting subordinates? getting a nicer office? making more money? taking on more responsibility? accomplishing things you couldn't accomlish when you started? to me, advancement is increasing your pay rate as a result of increase in knowledge, typically due to experience. basically increasing your worth to the company=advancement imho. if i go back to some of the first bits of code i wrote when i started 2.5 years ago, it's horrendous compared to right now, and so was my salary |
