ok. I never said it was good. you place too much emphasis on good and evil. I said it was necessary. I'll leave high-end scenerios out such as some guys who have a dirty bomb about to detonate Texas stadium. unlike many, I plead ignorance on that stuff. those intel guys are professionals in their field and I am far from it.

so your team gets hit from a house. you can tell by point of impact and noise where it came from...no question. this is supposedly a "safe" (relatively speaking) area with friendlies.

so you go to the house you suspect it came from to have a talk with them. it's a family, and they are obviously scared (but who wouldn't be having a group of armed Americans in your home).

separate the man from his family. have the wife and children in one room with some guys, while you and the translator give this guy the third degree. you can tell he is lying by his inability to piece together a coherant alibi during the time JUST FIVE MINUTES AGO about what he was doing. oh and he claimed he didn't hear any firing...riiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhht.

anyways, you bang him around a bit. nothing terrible, slaps, gut punches, throw him down, yelling. nothing. he won't break.

so you tell your boys to load his family up in the truck and act like they're going to take them. make sure he can see them being forcibly shuffled out. all kinds of yelling and crying and carrying on ALALALALAAALLLAHHHAHAHAHAHALLHA

and you ask him one last time where the gun is. he breaks and sure enough it's under his floor, warm barrel. you let his family go, load him up and take him to the MPs. where it goes from there, I'm sure is more interrogation about bigger picture stuff. not my deal.

what I do know is that physical and emotional distress got actionable intel from him that will save inevitable lives. by scooping him up, the area is no longer considered friendly, and people will be more on their guard there (reporters, aid workers, etc...the easy targets of abductions).

i'd imagine for those who do the grunt work of taking prisoners and having to care for them and such would be ultra hard. i mean if you're a soldier and you've seen your friends killed, then you have to serve meals and take care of the people who killed your friend, you'd probably want revenge... it's only human. the fact that it came down to stuff like making them go naked and holding dogs near them and not stuff like cutting them up shows even in this situation our troops have a decent head on their shoulders. i can say all day long i don't agree that what they did is right, but until i'm in the same situation they are, i can't say shit.

i disagree with you there. i think the reason that they dont chop them up or execute them is for a fear of the punishment, but they feel they must do at least something to scare the shit out of these people. They know they will be punished but not with a huge jail sentence, just a dishonorable discharge and perhaps a year in jail

I meant it's easy to sit on a message board and tell other people what they "should" do, than to actually be in their situation and do that.
