Fuck the PS3 get a 360 or Wii.
And I'll give you a reason, Its new and expensive. Yes, the PS3 could be a smashing success, but we will know that in a year, not on opening day, if I'm going to pop down 600 bucks on this thing then it had better have the best games and a long shelf life. get a regular xbox and mod that... modding a ps2 is pointless since it doesn't have a hard drive

There is a good soldering station in the EE basement. I have done one before and could do it if you get the chip. Depending on the model you can do the action replay trick.

go to modchip.com
look at all the modchip options, different features etc find someone that has experience soldering on surface mount parts and has the fine tipped soldering iron necesary get them to do it for you soldering on surface mount stuff can be waaaay tough... its extremely easy to lift a piece off the board or accidently short 2 contacts if you arent VERY careful. I've done a bit of surface mount soldering and have been pretty successful... practice on an old computer motherboard or pci card before you start working on the actual playstation. -------------------- ~Clatto Verata Nicto

The only thing you can do with a modded ps2 is play backups.
It's not a computer so you cant mess around with games like you can with an xbox. |

i modded my fliptop ps2. i don't pay for games even for my goddamn gameboy and ds.

When I modded my second xbox, I got the smartxx chip, pretty good imo. check out www.xboxscene.com for instructions on howto do it. Contact me if you want more specific details.
