See, I find it strange that it's difficult to find any decisive, agreed-upon standard for facts about daily water intake. Some of said 15 8oz glasses a day, others 8 8oz glasses, some others just say drink enough to replace the water you lost (your body acting as the signaler).
Also, what the hell counts towards water intake? Water obviously, but what about teas, like black teas, green teas, herbal teas, et cetera. What about coffee and sodas? Hell, what about foods? They've got a bit of water in them =o TOGETHER WE WILL MAKE IT THROUGH Timbo -------------------- ![]() |

I believe the standard is 10 8 oz glasses. But the point is that there's really no such thing as drinking too much water.
Oh, and that only counts water. If you drink anything with caffeine in it, you have to drink that much more water. -------------------- Holy shit, pebkac, you're awesome! I drink at least a gallon of water a day, sometimes up to 1 1/2 gallons.

take your weight, divide it in half, then drink that many ounces of water a day.
I've heard that method a lot. Example: I'm 165lbs. Therefore, I need to drink about 82.5 ouces of water a day. This post has been edited by Psykopath: Jul 1 2006, 08:01 PM -------------------- |

Here's a good rule of thumb...
If you're thirsty then it's too late, you're already dehydrated. So try to drink enough water throughout the day so you don't get thirsty once. Also, you can never drink too much water (well you can, but it's a god-awful large amount). |

If you drink anything with caffeine in it, you have to drink that much more water. Ah, so caffeine-free tea. What about that? I reckon the caffeine's bad cause it dries you out and serves as a diuretic. So what about tea that's got none (most herbals)? =o Or very little, compared to coffee (green tea). Sounds like a decent method. Anybody else heard of this; doctor-recommended? Timbo -------------------- ![]() |

Caffeine's really only a mild diuretic for most people. The more problematic thing is the sugar in many drinks (coffee, tea, soda, yes even juice). Basically, water is best, but even sodas can hydrate you. The idea that you have to drink extra water for each soda you drink is erroneous.
