Congress getting richer, again Options

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Without much fanfare, the House of Representatives last week voted to give members of Congress yet another pay raise, as it has done almost every year for nearly a decade.

For some reason, our elected officials decided against holding a news conference. Maybe that's because they didn't want to draw attention to the fact that they raise their own salaries almost every year while refusing to raise the pay of our lowest-paid workers.

I guess $170,000 a year just isn't enough for the necessities of life... you know... upscale houses, expensive suits, yuppie luncheons, large freezers with which to hold large sums of money, etc.

I think the minimum wage should be at around $6 an hour now. Working 40 hours a week at that would allow for one person to live decently.

$5.15....total bullshit wage.

I think the minimum wage should be at around $6 an hour now. Working 40 hours a week at that would allow for one person to live decently.

Every job you want done for $6 and hour in the United States will be done for $.50 an hour in China. I know it's emotionally satisfying, but artificially raising the value of unskilled labor just hurts the economy.

Edit: Cut Congress some slack ... those guys work really hard making sure your interests are protected, and only like 95 percent of them already have personal fortunes with which to feed their families ... with caviar ... that they caught themselves ... from their yacht ... in the Caspian ... where their summer home is.

Actually, it helps the economy. Poor people aren't exactly known for saving. The more money the poor have, the more money that gets spent, the more job creation occurs. Economics 101.

Maybe it's just me, but if we had the top 20 people or so in my company get together and vote "should we all get a raise?" I think it's a no brainer as to what the outcome would be.
