you can get it in a dehydrated block of tamarind, or most of the time in mixture with other stuff in pastes. The blocks you have to rehydrate with boiling water and sieve. I don't think I've seen the fresh fruit. IMO, the blocks are not worth the effort.

I managed to find a jar of concentrated "cooking tamarind" at the grocery store this evening. It's just a blend of tamarind and water. I think it should work well for most purposes. smile.gif

I made the tamarind chicken and coconut rice last night. Very yummy. smile.gif

For the chicken:

1/3 c. "cooking tamarind" (tamarind pulp & water blend)
2 T. brown sugar
1/4 t. cayenne, cumin, salt, and pepper (approximately)
dash of lime juice

I made it at the last minute, but next time I'll probably marinade the chicken for a few hours beforehand. Probably add more cumin too. smile.gif

I have cut fast food out of my diet except for once or twice on the weekends when im in san antonio... and this last weekend, I didnt eat fast food at all. I honestly cant remember the last time that I did. I havent eaten out but once in the past 3 weeks... and that was at Olive Garden 2 weeks ago. I feel pretty healthy right now. Im eating the best that I ever have.

That looks really good. I just might have to make that this weekend. Or maybe even tomorrow.
