Yeah so did Warner a couple days before their switch.
Warner released a statement today mentioning why they switched: They're claiming recession and blah blah blah. My guess is the $500 million bribe (from the Blu-ray camp) rumor is true. http://www.reuters.com/article/industryNew...742944620080109 On another note: Digital Playground (leading HD-DVD pr0n producer) has dropped HD-DVD and gone Blu-ray exclusive as well. http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/01/08/ps3-o...p-to-the-plate/ |

Apparently, microsoft is also considering dropping the HD-DVD add on in favor of a Blu-Ray add on if that's the "consumer choice."

Yeah I read somethin yesterday that mentioned they would build a blu-ray addon for xbox 360 if indeed blu-ray won out.
Also looks like more rumors flyin but supposedly credible sources, sayin that both Paramount and Universal (last two HD-DVD exclusive studios) will make the switch in February due to contract stipulations expiring which will allow them to. http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/01/09/sourc...both-going-blu/ Anyhow yeah, this one is pretty much over. I got the top of the line stand alone players of both formats, kinda glad I got a mega deal on the HD-DVD one (was a display model w/o box that I got at less than half the retail price at the time) |

I'm thinking of getting a PS3 just because it is one of the cheapest ways to get a blue ray player. Plus I'll get to play NCAA08 too. And I want to take advantage of that offer to get 5 free movies even though the selection sucks. I'm just hoping blu ray discs don't become defunct like sony's umd movies. What offer is this? I just bought a PS3 and it came with lame ass Spiderman 3. I didn't even bother reading through all the literature that came with the system.....can I get some more free shit? I have one HD-DVD movie and like 4 BluRay movies....can't tell a damn difference. I just like BluRay cause the cases are cooler looking -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

It is an offer from Sony, it should have printed a rebate & instructions with your receipt.
And yeah I have about 10-15 of each and have seen no difference in picture or sound quality. Definitely a difference from SD-DVD though. |

Naw, supposedly their out-clause expires Jan 31st. So if they switch it'll probably be at least until Feb until we hear anything.

I've got over 400 DVDs, not including the TV show sets (some which were 100 per season)....and Blu-Ray is just too damn expensive, and I dont wanna have to go re-purchase all my movies.

Well just like DVDs, they'll go down in price. I've gotten plenty in BOGO deals and for less than $20. I've only got about 100 DVDs, and only rebought a couple of my favorites in Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. Although if I purchase a new movie, it's definitely HD-DVD or Blu-ray. |

I probably have about 300 RETAIL DVDs. I'm not even through getting the DVD versions of some of my favorite movies that I have on VHS. And some of them haven't even been released on DVD. An example is my favorite version of the Godfather Trilogy: So for now I'm just gonna keep watching my DVDs and I'll fuck with BluRay later. I did hear that they were dropping the PS3 price to 299 soon so I might cop one. -------------------- Fuckmuffin. That word and muffintop are the two coolest things I've ever seen on this place. What would happen if a fuckmuffin fucked a chick with a muffintop? That's a lot of muffins. A lot of motherfuffin muffuckins.

Yeah, my Farscape DVDs were $110 per season....so I'm sure if they ever released them on Blu-Ray, they would be like $175 per season. Cus they like to fuck with us dorks.
Like you, I am gonna wait until the dust settles....don't wanna end up like Laserdisc! haha |

It lets you keep an online database of your stuff, like this http://www.invelos.com I use a webapp like this with my iPhone....let's me update the list on my computer or the iPhone, and let's me access from both also. Has a comments section, a tab to select which ones you've watched, and a rating section, and a section to let you know which ones have been loaned out. |
