Planning to go to Vegas in a few weeks. Going Tuesday-Friday to avoid crowds and higher weekend prices.

Looking for tips, either on how to save money or how to get the best value.

Also, what's the one thing we shouldn't leave Vegas without doing/seeing?

Go to the Coca Cola factory. It's really fun! You can try coke flavors from all over the world. I also liked the M&M factory. I haven't been there since I was 13, though, so my ideas may seem a bit ... young? From my memories, though, I remember it being fun no matter what your age. I liked the mall inside Caesar's Palace too. I stayed at the MGM Grand. It had a lot of neat stuff to see in the hotel lobby. When I went, there was a 6.0 earthquake at 2 am and we were in a room on the 23rd floor... NEAT EXPERIENCE!

What are you wanting to do, gamble, take in a show, both? You won't be avoiding many crowds, at least in my experience. The snowbirds are there and will be for a few more months.

i usually go to a comedy club or two.
if your hotel has one, asking the front desk people for tickets usually works if you spend enough money in the casino.
if you pay less than $15 for a buffet, you might not want to eat the seafood.
i like going to the golden nugget and spinning the gigantic slot machine.
lots of places have free shows at certain times.

if you go to the strip you can watch the show on the giant awning, which is hourly i think.

some places sell drinks in three foot cups, but if you sit at a table/machine, you get free drinks pretty much everywhere.
do not be afraid to ask for exactly what you want. i usually get name brand cognac. and remember to tip the cocktail waitresses. the better you tip the more attention they pay.

If you gamble, do it downtown. Much nicer atmosphere and usually cheaper tables.

when i was ther this summer, i stayed in the imperial palace, it was a cheaper hotel in the middle of the strip. It was as nice as your avg hotel across the nation. My feeling was to save money on the hotel room since you can gamble anywhere. It's cheaper to walk up and down the strip but if you don't like that then I would suggest the monorail, just dont take the cabs unless you are going "off strip"

when you are playing the games get a "players club card" they are free and you can get points for free food and accommodations. Also you can get free drinks while you playing but remember to tip even if it isnt a huge tip and the drink girl will keep coming. If you play some of the bigger money table games you can ask for free food. Basically ask for what you want, they are there to serve you. If you seem happy they assume that you are putting more money into their casino.

I don't know a whole lot about shows. But if you have any other questions about Vegas just let me know. I got some family out there so I know a little bit about the town.

remember this phrase: "slap, slap, offer, slap, slap, offer, slap, slap, offer." you won't know what it means now but you will once you get there

I would highly recommend not taking a cab at all. They are notorious for ripping people off in Vegas. They will take the long route from the airport to the strip and your fare will be $20 higher than it should. Rent a car for a few days.

I've actually caught a cab driver in the act and told him to take the normal route... He tried to tell me there was too much traffic, I said, "fine, then you'll make more money". There was no traffic and he looked pissed when we got to the hotel.

If you play anything, play the slots or no house game.

The slots are terrible. If you must play slots, look for machines in areas where tons of people are playing, and pick a machine where you can play all the lines (i.e. quarter machines, you'll play 2-3 quarters per pull).

Do yourself a favor and do one of the "we'll pay you to learn craps" deals. They'll give you like $20 in chips and show you how to play. It's the best odds in the casino.

The best way to win money is when you play against other players, not the house. The house always favors the house. Poker rooms, however, can't favor the house since there are players playing against each other and the house can't do anything about it.
