Haha, no, we're both full-time engineers. Though, as I said, one or both of us may be going back to school eventually, me for my PhD and he for his MS + maybe PhD.

I think it ought to be illegal to give people a loan if their debt-to-income ratio is higher than %50.

This would certainly limit the number people eligible for loans. A good portion of America are above your ratio.
