Kind of my version of Blue's thread. I got a MacBook Pro yesterday. Haven't really done much with it yet, but what sort of apps should I install? I'm not hugely familiar with what's available for macs.

Firefox, obviously
IM program? I don't think there's a version of Trillian for Macs
Finance management? Not sure if the Mac comes with something for this... I use Microsoft Money on my PC
Other stuff?

Fruity Loops!

Fuckmuffin. That word and muffintop are the two coolest things I've ever seen on this place. What would happen if a fuckmuffin fucked a chick with a muffintop? That's a lot of muffins. A lot of motherfuffin muffuckins.

I got Office 2004 for Mac from a Tech student....

I think there is a Trillian for Mac....there's also another program called Adium, that I hear most folks talk about. I use iChat and Yahoo Mesenger for Mac.

I've heard poor reviews on the money management programs for Mac....so if you can install Windows on yours, do that and install the Windows version of the money software you want.

There is Quicken for the Mac

I like iWork (I know TTUAthleticTrainer, I need to get it to you) for word docs and spreadsheets.

Adium for chat

iPhoto should suit your photo editing needs (if it doesn't I'll post suggestions)

If you have an external harddrive that is blank, I suggest downloading Carbon Copy Cloner and using it to make a complete backup.

Reading this is a great start: http://paulstamatiou.com/2005/11/29/10-thi...er-should-know/

http://www.flip4mac.com/ is for Windows Media files

And of course Skype works on the Mac

As a note, I almost never send word docs to people anymore unless I know that they need to edit them. Since the Mac has a "Save As PDF" feature built-in, I send most everything as PDF.

most of those are good. spend some time with quicksilver, and you'll never use the finder, dock, desktop, or click on any app ever again.

Just FYI our gangsta friend wasn't lying... Fruity Loops is an excellent audio editing program, originally developed for Macs I believe.

I have a suggestion but it's not constructive so I'll keep it to myself smile.gif

I'd like to know how without a plugin. I'm on Office 2003.

If you install adobe reader it installs the plugin (or at least gives you the option to). Would be a little pointless to create PDFs if you can't read em, no?

You mean it would be pointless to read PDFs if you create them.

Adobe reader.

I've installed Adobe Reader and never had an option to install anything that allows me to "Print to PDF" without a 3rd party plug-in.
