We have a coworker that we learned on Friday has MRSA (the deadly form of Staph). He has been working in our office with this infection for a while now and has showed people around the office the open sore.
My question is, did he have an obligation to inform us that he had come down with Staph so that we could take precautions? This isn't AIDS or cancer, his infection can actively infect others in the office which is why I personally think he is obligated. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Those who have MRSA are at risk of transmitting it to someone else. While this isn't really a problem for otherwise healthy people, if it is transmitted to the sick or the elderly, it can cause significant problems because they are the ones that are more at risk for developing these types of infections.
It is a warning signal about the overuse of antibiotics. Infections with MRSA are now primarily treated with one antibiotic called vancomycin. If the MRSA bacteria become resistant to vancomycin (and there has now been one report from Japan), we will be left with little to treat it. - thats what i thought. its contagious but not really worry worthy -------------------- Little monkeys making money

Well, it is considered highly infectious because they can't kill it. And casual contact can result in infection.

A guy in our office had a "bible blister" on his wrist, and his crappy ass doc decided to cut it out instead of the usual just popping it. Guy was left with a gaping hole (prob about an inch wide and 1/2 inch deep) which got infected. Don't think it was this fancy staph yall are talkin about, but damn he got really sick and almost died from the resulting infection. He has a friggin stint into his heart that hangs outta his arm right now that he has to feed some antibiotic into every day. All bc some dipshit doc didn't just bust the blister like you're supposed to.
